The RDX is framed as a 5-passenger crossover SUV for buyers who want a practical premium vehicle with a broader set of upgrades than a simple cosmetic refresh. Acura’s update brought a revised powertrain, enhanced safety, fresh styling, and new infotainment technology, so you’re looking at a model year that was improved in several important ways. Is the 2016 Acura RDX reliable?

The 2016 RDX is described as expected to be reliable and relatively affordable to own over time, and Acura’s updated powertrain is presented as a meaningful improvement. The 3.5-liter V6 is noted for strong output and efficiency gains, while Variable Cylinder Management helps reduce fuel use during steady driving. Acura also says premium fuel is recommended but not required, which can help keep day-to-day ownership more flexible.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is making sure the vehicle has been maintained well enough to preserve the benefits of that upgraded powertrain and the added technology.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Acura RDX?

At 58.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one with visible cosmetic wear. Focus on condition consistency across the body, interior, and electronics, since this model year added more technology and safety equipment that you’ll want working properly. If a listing has prior damage, make sure the repair quality matches the asking price.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base version gets the refreshed styling, Jewel Eye LED headlights, and standard aluminum wheels, while the Advance package adds every factory option and upgrades to 18-inch machined-finish wheels. If you want the most equipment, the Advance package is the most complete choice.
• Powertrain: The 3.5-liter V6 makes 279 horsepower, uses Variable Cylinder Management for better efficiency, and pairs with a 6-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard, and all-wheel drive is available.
• Safety package: AcuraWatch Plus adds adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, and lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist. Technology and Advance packages also add blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert.
• Infotainment: The RDX uses a dual-screen infotainment setup, with the lower screen dedicated to radio and media and the upper screen handling the rest of the system. The system includes navigation with real-time traffic data, and pairing and streaming are described as easy.
• Fuel efficiency: The V6 is rated at up to 29 mpg on the highway, and the review notes 19 mpg city, 28 mpg highway, and 22 mpg combined for AWD models.

Should I buy a 2016 Acura RDX or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 34.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 58.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.80% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• For 2016, Acura gives its 5-passenger crossover SUV, the RDX, a thorough update, upgrading the powertrain, enhancing vehicle safety, installing new infotainment technologies, and more.

The bottom line: If you want the updated RDX with stronger safety, better tech, and a more refined powertrain, the 2016 is the right path to focus on. If your priority is simply finding the lowest possible asking price, you can also compare nearby years, but the 2016 stands out because it combines the refresh with a still-reasonable used price.
