CarGurus Analysis: 2015 Volkswagen Beetle
overall

Summary
With 336 currently listed for sale and an average price of $13,353, 26.8% of 2015 Volkswagen Beetles for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2015 Volkswagen Beetle 5 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8 / 10.
46.1% of 2015 Beetle models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2015 Volkswagen Beetle stands out for its retro styling and the flexibility of its trim range, which lets buyers tailor the car to their needs without paying for features they do not want. It is also described as not being a bargain no matter which trim you choose, so its appeal is less about low pricing and more about choosing the right mix of equipment and personality.
This model year keeps the Beetle’s fun character while offering three engine choices, including a new, more powerful TDI clean diesel that also improves fuel economy. The summary also notes that the Beetle Convertible TDI loses some of the cute this year, making it a little more guy-friendly than in years past. Owner feedback reinforces the car’s style, fuel efficiency, and reliability, while also pointing to a lack of technological features, particularly navigation, as a drawback.

Has the majority of mod cons for everyday driving. I think the car is good value for a reliable make and model. It does not however have navigation. Mini Cooper, Fiat 500 and Toyota Prius were the other cars considered.

What should I look for when buying a used 2015 Volkswagen Beetle?
At 46.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has had bodywork or shows uneven panel gaps, paint mismatch, or interior wear. Focus on condition first, because this model year is priced more like a premium choice than a bargain.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base 1.8T includes heated leatherette seats, cruise control, telescoping steering, a multifunction leather-wrapped steering wheel, a rear spoiler, heated exterior mirrors, and 17-inch alloy wheels. Higher trims add a rear-view camera, touchscreen sound system, keyless entry with push-button start, Fender premium audio, touchscreen navigation, bi-xenon headlights, and larger alloy wheels.
- Powertrain: You get three engine choices, including a 1.8-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder, a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder, and a 2.0-liter TDI diesel. The diesel is the torque-rich option and is described as more powerful than the previous diesel while also improving fuel economy.
- Safety package: The car comes with multiple airbags, automatic rollover support, antilock brakes, electronic stability control, an intelligent crash-response system, and a tire pressure monitoring system. A rear-view camera and blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert are available on higher trims.
- Infotainment: The Sound and Navigation setup includes Bluetooth with audio streaming, a 5-inch color touchscreen navigation system, an SD memory-card reader, and a Media Device Interface with an iPod cable. The screen is described as small and positioned a bit far from the driver.
- Fuel efficiency: The diesel is rated at 30 mpg city/40 highway/34 combined, and the expert notes say it improves fuel economy by 3 mpg over the previous diesel.
Which 2015 Volkswagen Beetle trim should I buy?
The 2015 Volkswagen Beetle is offered in 5 trim levels: 1.8T, Tech, Sound and Navigation, Classic, R-Line 2.0T.
Here's the short version:
- 1.8T: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core Beetle experience with heated leatherette seats, cruise control, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and 17-inch alloy wheels. It makes sense if you want the Beetle’s style without paying for extras.
- Tech: This adds a rear-view camera, touchscreen sound system, and keyless entry with push-button start. It’s the best-value step up if you want more everyday convenience without jumping too far in price.
- Sound and Navigation: This trim adds Fender premium audio, touchscreen navigation, and larger alloy wheels. Choose it if you want the most complete tech setup in the lineup.
- Classic: This version leans hardest into the retro theme with unique exterior and interior details, including a special paint-and-roof combination and a checker-pattern cabin treatment. It’s the pick if style and exclusivity matter most to you.
- R-Line 2.0T: This is the performance-oriented choice, with the 2.0-liter turbo engine, sport suspension, larger wheels, and R-Line bumpers. Buy this if you want the most energetic driving character in the range.
The safety package is strongest on higher trims, where the rear-view camera and blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert are available.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2015 Volkswagen Beetle?
The market still favors selective shopping, so you should be patient and compare listings carefully rather than rushing into the first decent example you see.
- Deal availability: 26.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 337 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices are up 6.22% year-over-year.
- Clean inventory: 46.9% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $11,996, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2015 Volkswagen Beetle's resale value?
The current average of $13,415 sits slightly above last year's $12,630.
That upward move suggests the Beetle is holding buyer interest well enough to support pricing. If you buy carefully and keep the car in good condition, you should have a decent shot at preserving value relative to a weaker-trending used car.
The model’s style, fuel efficiency, and strong owner satisfaction help keep demand steady, which is useful when it’s time to sell.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2015 Volkswagen Beetle safe?
The Volkswagen Beetle earns Good ratings from IIHS in most crash tests, with a Marginal rating in Small Overlap Front, and it earns a five-star overall rating from NHTSA.
It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.
The Beetle comes with multiple airbags, automatic rollover support, antilock brakes, electronic stability control, an intelligent crash-response system, and a tire pressure monitoring system. VW Car-Net adds roadside assistance, manual emergency calling, and automatic crash notifications, and it can be a useful subscription-based safety net.
The main caveat is the IIHS Small Overlap Front result, which is weaker than the rest of its crashworthiness performance. A rear-view camera and blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert are available on higher trims, but they are not standard.
Should I buy a 2015 Volkswagen Beetle or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2015 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2015 if:
- 26.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 46.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices are up 6.22% year-over-year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The expert summary says this year keeps the Beetle’s retro styling and fun character while adding three engine choices, including a more powerful TDI clean diesel with improved fuel economy.
The bottom line: The 2015 Beetle is the right pick if you want the strongest mix of style, owner satisfaction, and engine variety in this range. If you’re more price-sensitive, shop the lower end of the market carefully and focus on condition, because this is not a bargain car and the best examples are worth paying for.
