What should I look for when buying a used 2015 Lexus RX?

At 51.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one with a sport package. Focus on overall condition, signs of prior bodywork, and whether the equipment you want is actually present, since some desirable safety and convenience features were optional rather than standard.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The F Sport package adds all-wheel drive, an 8-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters, a sport-tuned suspension, bigger wheels and tires, perforated leather upholstery, and unique styling details. It is the most assertive version described here, while the standard RX keeps the calmer, more comfort-focused personality.
• Powertrain: The RX 350 uses a 270-hp, 3.5-liter V6 paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. The engine is described as strong and smooth, while the transmission can feel aggressively geared.
• Safety package: The Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management system helps stabilize the vehicle when it senses loss of control. Available safety equipment includes front and rear parking sensors, blind-spot information, dynamic cruise control with pre-collision warning, and pre-collision braking. A reversing camera is standard, but rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and a 360-degree camera system are not offered.
• Infotainment: The RX uses a display screen tucked beneath the windshield with a Remote Touch controller on the center console. Optional navigation adds Lexus Enform, a 1-year trial subscription, advanced voice command, enhanced Bluetooth, app access, and destination services.
• Fuel efficiency: The expert test drive records 19.3 mpg in observed driving, and the official combined rating is 21 mpg.

Which 2015 Lexus RX trim should I buy?

The 2015 Lexus RX is offered in 2 trim levels: RX 350 and RX 450h.

Here's the short version:

• RX 350: This is the main gas model and the one described in the test-drive material. It delivers the RX’s core strengths: comfort, practicality, a quiet cabin, and strong value for money. If you want the classic RX experience without paying extra for the hybrid premium, this is the trim to focus on.
• RX 450h: The hybrid version adds performance and efficiency, but it carries a significant price premium. It makes sense if you specifically want the hybrid powertrain and are willing to pay more for it.

The safety content notes that the RX can be equipped with a blind-spot information system, dynamic cruise control with pre-collision warning, and pre-collision braking, but some advanced driver-assistance features are not available.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2015 Lexus RX?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on the right listing.

• Deal availability: 39.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,066 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 1.42% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 51.3% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $16,756, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2015 Lexus RX's resale value?

The current average of $17,052 sits slightly below last year's $17,298.

That modest decline suggests the RX is holding value reasonably well rather than dropping sharply. For a future seller, that kind of movement usually points to steady demand instead of a weak market. The RX’s reputation for comfort, reliability, and value should help support buyer interest when it’s time to resell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2015 Lexus RX safe?

The Lexus RX earns a four-star overall rating from NHTSA for the front-wheel-drive version, while the heavier all-wheel-drive version gets a five-star rating. The IIHS gives it the top rating of Good in four out of five crashworthiness assessments.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

The RX’s standard safety equipment includes a reversing camera and Safety Connect, which automatically notifies authorities when the airbags deploy and is included for the first year without a subscription. Available driver-assistance features include front and rear parking sensors, blind-spot information, dynamic cruise control with pre-collision warning, and pre-collision braking. The main caveat is that several newer safety technologies are not offered, including rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and a 360-degree camera system.

Should I buy a 2015 Lexus RX or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2015 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2015 if:

• 39.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 51.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 1.42% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The expert summary says the RX remains quiet, comfortable, practical, and upscale, even as age affects its competitiveness.

Consider the 2016 if:

• At $22,004, the 2016 costs more than the current year's $17,052 average.
• The redesign brings a new fourth-generation RX with a stronger comfort focus and updated appeal.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2015 is the smarter buy because it combines a lower average price with strong owner satisfaction and plenty of listings. If you’re willing to spend more for a newer redesign, the 2016 is the better path for shoppers who want the next-generation RX experience.
