CarGurus Analysis: 2015 Kia Sorento
overall

Summary
With 924 currently listed for sale and an average price of $8,428, 27.9% of 2015 Kia Sorentos for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2015 Kia Sorento 4.75 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 6.83 / 10.
61.3% of 2015 Sorento models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2015 Kia Sorento stands out as an attractive, well-equipped crossover that reflects Kia’s emphasis on stylish vehicles, lasting build quality, compelling features, and fair pricing. Those qualities help explain why it remains appealing to buyers looking for a crossover that feels thoughtfully packaged rather than stripped down.
At the same time, the 2015 Kia Sorento has clear drawbacks. It disappoints in fuel economy and in performance in a critical new crash-test evaluation, and the assessment suggests that a total makeover is needed if Kia wants the Sorento to stay compelling in this highly competitive segment. Owner feedback is generally positive, with praise for the spacious interior, smooth ride, and reliable performance, though some drivers have been disappointed by missing advertised features.

Great car, has most features . The only one I wish it had that is not there is electric seats. Other than that I’m very satisfied.

So far, I am satisfied with the Sorento. Was also ,looking at the Dodge Journey, and decided on Sorento. Is quiet, takes hills nicely, especially like hil- assist. Only drawback is some features advertised were missing,i.e. prower heated side mirrors and auto daytime running lights. Otherwise, felt I got a good value.

How much does the 2015 Kia Sorento cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $8,456 |
| Year-Round Low | $8,450 |
| Year-Round High | $9,528 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $9,523 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −11.21% |
Prices have softened 11.21% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 890 listings available, which suggests you should have a workable range of choices.
Is the 2015 Kia Sorento a good car?
Yes — the 2015 Kia Sorento earns a 4.75/5 user rating and a 6.83/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Technology at 8/10.
Owners consistently praise the spacious interior, smooth ride, and reliable performance. That lines up with the Sorento’s appeal as a thoughtfully packaged crossover that feels well equipped rather than stripped down.
For you, that means this model year makes the most sense if you want a family-friendly crossover with a strong feature set and a generally positive ownership experience. 28.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so there are still opportunities to find value.
Is the 2015 Kia Sorento reliable?
Owners rate it 4.75/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to reliable performance, and the expert assessment also describes the Sorento as a vehicle with lasting build quality. That combination suggests you can count on it for everyday use if you choose carefully.
The expert review also notes Kia’s terrific warranty and roadside-assistance plan, which can help reduce ownership stress. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that condition and maintenance history matter a lot, especially given the model’s mixed value and ownership-cost outlook.
What should I look for when buying a used 2015 Kia Sorento?
At 61.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the equipment matches what was advertised, since some owners have been disappointed by missing features.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The LX is the most basic version, while the EX adds a V6, larger wheels, LED running lights, fog lights, roof rails, rear parking-assist sensors, leather upholstery, heated front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, rear side-window sunshades, UVO eServices, keyless engine start, a reversing camera, and blind-spot detection. The SX adds 19-inch wheels, power folding side mirrors, a power tailgate, LED taillights, navigation, premium audio, a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, rear air conditioning, and a 115-volt outlet. The SX Limited adds chrome wheels, Xenon headlights, premium Nappa leather, heated rear seats, and a heated steering wheel.
- Powertrain: A 4-cylinder engine comes standard on the LX, while a V6 is optional on the LX and standard on the other trims. The V6 is described as a 290-hp, 3.3-liter engine paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission, and front-wheel drive is standard with all-wheel drive optional.
- Safety package: Blind-spot detection is included on SX and Limited trims, while EX models get a reversing camera and rear parking-assist sensors. The UVO eServices system adds 911 Connect with Crash Notification Assist.
- Infotainment: UVO is responsive and intuitive, supports voice commands and smartphone syncing, and includes eServices features. It also offers Parking Minder, phone-to-navigation destination sending, and geo-fencing tools.
- Fuel efficiency: The expert review says the Sorento returned 18.1 mpg in combined driving during testing, and it notes EPA estimates of about 18 mpg city and 25 mpg highway.
Which 2015 Kia Sorento trim should I buy?
The 2015 Kia Sorento is offered in 4 trim levels: LX, EX, SX and SX Limited.
Here's the short version:
- LX: This is the entry point, and it makes sense if you want the Sorento’s basic shape and available V6/AWD flexibility without paying for the higher-trim equipment.
- EX: This is the best-value trim because it adds the V6, leather upholstery, heated front seats, dual-zone climate control, UVO eServices, a reversing camera, and blind-spot detection.
- SX: Choose this if you want the more upscale equipment, including navigation, premium audio, a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, rear air conditioning, and a power tailgate.
- SX Limited: Pick this only if you want the most luxurious version, with Nappa leather, heated rear seats, a heated steering wheel, chrome wheels, and Xenon headlights.
Blind-spot detection is included on SX and Limited trims, while EX models get a reversing camera and rear parking-assist sensors.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2015 Kia Sorento?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory and pricing softness to reward careful shopping.
- Deal availability: 28.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 890 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 11.21% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 61.7% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $8,450, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2015 Kia Sorento's resale value?
The current average of $8,456 sits slightly below last year's $9,523.
That price decline suggests the Sorento has already absorbed a meaningful amount of depreciation, which can help future resale stability if you buy at the right price. For a later seller, that means your biggest advantage will come from choosing a clean, well-kept example rather than expecting the model to hold value exceptionally well on its own.
The market also appears to reward vehicles with strong owner satisfaction, and this model year's 4.75/5 rating supports continued buyer interest over time.
Is the 2015 Kia Sorento safe?
The 2015 Kia Sorento earns a five-star overall rating from NHTSA.
It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.
Kia says higher trims get the more important modern safety technologies. EX models include a reversing camera and rear parking-assist sensors, while SX and Limited trims add blind-spot detection. The UVO eServices system also includes 911 Connect with Crash Notification Assist, which can automatically connect occupants with authorities after a crash if a paired smartphone is in the vehicle.
A key caveat is that the IIHS had not yet rated this model year, and the review notes that the Sorento was weak in a critical crash-test evaluation on the prior model.
Should I buy a 2015 Kia Sorento or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2015 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2015 if:
- 28.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 61.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 11.21% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.75/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2015 brings a well-equipped cabin and strong technology, but it also shows its age in fuel economy and crash-test concerns.
Consider the 2014 if:
- At $8,001, the 2014 costs less than the current year's $8,456 average.
- It offers a refined update with style, performance, safety, and substance, though comfort is a drawback.
Consider the 2016 if:
- At $9,953, the 2016 costs more than the current year's $8,456 average.
- It is all new with a more upscale appearance, a refined interior, and a turbocharged engine option.
The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price and equipment, the 2015 is the sensible middle ground. If you’re especially price-sensitive, the 2014 can save you money, while the 2016 is the better path if you want the newer redesign and can stretch your budget.
