What should I look for when buying a used 2015 Chevrolet Equinox?

At 61.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then focus your inspection on body condition, repair quality, and any signs of prior damage. Because the market includes a meaningful number of non-clean examples, it pays to verify panel alignment, paint consistency, and whether any warning lights or camera issues show up during a test drive.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base L includes the 2.4-liter engine, a 6-speed automatic transmission, Bluetooth phone, Wi-Fi hotspot capability, and 60/40-split folding rear seats. Higher trims add more comfort and convenience, with the LTZ bringing rear park assist, forward-collision alert, lane-departure warning, halogen headlamps, and a power rear liftgate.
• Powertrain: You can choose between a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder with 182 hp and an optional 3.6-liter V6 with 301 hp. The 4-cylinder is the efficiency-minded choice, while the V6 is better suited to towing or stronger highway and mountain performance.
• Safety package: The Equinox includes 4-wheel antilock brakes, tire pressure monitoring, daytime running lamps, driver and passenger airbags with side-impact bags, and head curtains up front. Higher 2LT and LTZ trims add frontal-collision alert, lane-departure warnings, and parking sensors, while every trim except the base L gets a rear-facing parking camera.
• Infotainment: The 1LT adds a 7-inch touchscreen MyLink radio, backup camera, and leather-wrapped steering wheel. Chevrolet’s MyLink system supports Bluetooth streaming with Pandora and Stitcher, and the vehicle also offers 4G/LTE hotspot capability.
• Fuel efficiency: The 2.4-liter engine is rated at 22 mpg city and 32 highway, while the 3.6-liter V6 is rated at 17 mpg city and 24 highway.

Which 2015 Chevrolet Equinox trim should I buy?

The 2015 Chevrolet Equinox is offered in 5 trim levels: L, LS, 1LT, 2LT, LTZ.

Here's the short version:

• L: This is the simplest way into the Equinox, and it gives you the core utility features plus the 2.4-liter engine, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi hotspot capability, and folding rear seats. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost entry point and can live without the convenience upgrades.
• LS: This trim adds satellite radio with a 3-month trial and body-colored exterior panels, so it’s a modest step up if you want a little more polish without moving far up the price ladder.
• 1LT: This is the best-value choice for many shoppers because it adds the 7-inch touchscreen MyLink radio, backup camera, and leather-wrapped steering wheel. If you want the most useful everyday upgrades without overpaying, this is the trim to target.
• 2LT: This trim adds heated front seats, a premium stereo, automatic climate control, and optional leather and navigation. It’s a better fit if comfort matters more to you and you want a more upscale daily driver.
• LTZ: This is the most feature-rich version, with rear park assist, forward-collision alert, lane-departure warning, halogen headlamps, and a power rear liftgate. Choose it if you want the most safety and convenience equipment.

Higher 2LT and LTZ trims include the advanced safety features, while the base L does not get the rear-facing parking camera.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2015 Chevrolet Equinox?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile options.

• Deal availability: 27.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,811 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.50% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 61.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $8,098, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2015 Chevrolet Equinox's resale value?

The current average of $8,098 sits slightly below last year's $8,755.

That softer pricing suggests the Equinox is in a buyer-friendly phase right now, which can work against future resale if you buy at the wrong point in the cycle. If you plan to sell later, your best protection is to buy well, keep mileage reasonable, and choose a clean, well-documented example.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2015 Chevrolet Equinox safe?

The Chevrolet Equinox received a 4-star overall safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, including a 5-star rating for side impact crashes and 4 stars for front and rollover crashes. Similarly, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave the Equinox a Good rating in all categories—small and moderate overlap front, side, roof strength, and head restraints and seats.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

The Equinox includes rear child-seat latches and easy ingress and egress for loading and unloading in the front and rear seats. Higher 2LT and LTZ trims add frontal-collision alert, lane-departure warnings, and parking sensors, while every trim except the base L comes with a rear-facing parking camera.

Should I buy a 2015 Chevrolet Equinox or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2015 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2015 if:

• 27.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 61.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.50% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2015 model stands out for its tried-and-true family-crossover formula, quiet exterior, and wide range of configurations.

The bottom line: The 2015 Equinox makes the most sense if you want a practical, widely available crossover and you’re willing to trade away some fuel economy and feature richness. If you’re price-sensitive, this year’s softer pricing and broad inventory make it worth a close look; if you want a newer-feeling cabin or more modern equipment, you may want to compare it with a later model year.
