There are 1,037 listings available, which gives you a solid pool to compare prices and equipment.

Is the 2015 BMW X5 a good car?

Yes — the 2015 BMW X5 earns a 4.55/5 user rating and a 7.83/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Performance and Technology.

Drivers consistently praise its performance, style, and luxurious features, and they also call out the smooth ride and strong power. That lines up with the X5’s use-case as a luxury SUV that still prioritizes driving feel, so you get utility without giving up the sporty character BMW is known for. With 34.6% of listings marked as good or great deals, there’s also meaningful market opportunity if you shop carefully.

Is the 2015 BMW X5 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.55/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The user feedback points to a vehicle that feels impressive, luxurious, and enjoyable to live with over time, with many drivers highlighting its smooth ride and strong power. The expert driving notes also emphasize the X5’s composed chassis and the way it handles bumps and body motion with confidence, which supports the impression of a well-sorted, dependable luxury SUV. The available maintenance perk language also suggests BMW tried to soften ownership friction on some service visits.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about basic capability and more about expensive ownership if the truck was heavily optioned or poorly maintained.

What should I look for when buying a used 2015 BMW X5?

At 58.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially on higher-mileage or heavily optioned examples. Focus on body condition, evidence of prior repairs, and whether the equipment on the car matches the seller’s description. Because this is a luxury SUV with a lot of available technology, you’ll also want to confirm that the major convenience and safety systems work as intended.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The X5’s trim structure includes meaningful equipment gaps, and the base rear-wheel-drive sDrive35i stands apart from the all-wheel-drive versions. Higher trims and option packages add more luxury and convenience content, so you should compare feature content carefully before deciding which one fits your needs.
• Powertrain: You can shop the 3.0-liter twin-turbo inline six, the 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8, and diesel or performance variants mentioned in the test-drive notes. The inline six is the preferred balance of power and efficiency, while the V8 is much quicker but uses more fuel.
• Safety package: The Active Driving Assistant adds forward collision alert with automatic braking for cars and pedestrians, plus lane-departure warning. Blind-spot monitoring and a backup camera are available, but they are not standard.
• Infotainment: The X5 uses a 10.2-inch LCD screen, and the system includes a digital owner’s manual, live traffic, internet browsing, oil-level checks, and night vision functions. Some features require packages, so verify exactly what’s installed.
• Fuel efficiency: The expert notes cite 24 mpg for the inline-six version and 17 mpg for the V8 version.

Which 2015 BMW X5 trim should I buy?

The 2015 BMW X5 is offered in 5 trim levels: sDrive35i, xDrive35i, xDrive35d, xDrive50i, X5 M.

Here's the short version:

• sDrive35i: This is the rear-wheel-drive entry point, so it makes sense if you want the X5 experience at the lowest starting point and do not need all-wheel drive.
• xDrive35i: This is the best-value choice for most shoppers because it keeps the preferred inline-six powertrain while adding all-wheel drive and broad everyday usability.
• xDrive35d: Choose this if you want the diesel’s efficiency-minded character and are willing to prioritize that over the gasoline models.
• xDrive50i: This is the V8 choice for you if straight-line speed matters most and you want the strongest performance in the regular lineup.
• X5 M: This is the high-performance outlier for buyers who want the most aggressive version and are shopping for maximum performance rather than value.

The safety package note to keep in mind is that Active Driving Assistant is optional, and blind-spot monitoring and the backup camera are not standard.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2015 BMW X5?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you stay disciplined.

• Deal availability: 34.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,037 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.27% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 58.9% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $12,383, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2015 BMW X5's resale value?

The current average of $12,383 sits slightly below last year's $13,800.

That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy more confidently now but may also limit short-term upside if you plan to resell soon. If you’re a future seller, the key will be keeping mileage, condition, and service history strong enough to stand out from the broader used inventory. Well-kept examples should still attract interest because the X5’s blend of luxury and performance remains a core part of its appeal.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.55/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2015 BMW X5 safe?

The 2015 BMW X5 earns five-star ratings from federal crash tests and a top Good rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

The Active Driving Assistant adds forward collision alert with automatic braking for cars and pedestrians, plus lane-departure warning. Blind-spot monitoring and a backup camera are available, but they are not standard. The X5 also includes the usual airbags and stability control, along with luxury-brand touches like brakes that dry themselves in the rain and help compensate for fade during repeated stops.

Should I buy a 2015 BMW X5 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2015 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2015 if:

• 34.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 58.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.27% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.55/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It blends SUV practicality with BMW’s sporty driving feel and strong performance.

Consider the 2014 if:

• At $11,900, the 2014 costs less than the current year's $12,383 average.
• It emphasizes luxury SUV performance and helped define the segment.

The bottom line: If you want the stronger all-around shopping position, the 2015 is the better target because pricing has softened and inventory is healthy. If your priority is saving money up front, the 2014 is the better value play, especially if you find one with a clean history and solid maintenance records.
