CarGurus Analysis: 2015 BMW 3 Series
overall

Summary
With 1,402 currently listed for sale and an average price of $10,686, 30.8% of 2015 BMW 3 Series models for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2015 BMW 3 Series 4.73 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.5 / 10.
52.2% of 2015 BMW 3 Series models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2015 BMW 3 Series stands out as a sport-luxury sedan that still leans hard into the qualities that made the name famous. Its tight, precise chassis remains part of the appeal, and the engine is described as wonderfully powerful, giving the car the kind of performance character buyers expect from a BMW 3 Series. At the same time, the expert assessment makes clear that this strength comes at a price, which is part of the car’s identity as much as its driving feel.
What makes the 2015 BMW 3 Series especially distinctive is that it is now purely a sedan, so its focus is narrowed to that body style. That helps reinforce its role as a driver’s car, but it also means it has to live up to a very strong reputation in a segment that has become more competitive. The result is a car with clear strengths in handling and power, but one that may ask more from buyers in terms of cost than some rivals. Owners also tend to praise its solid build quality, luxurious interior, and smooth driving experience, while some note drawbacks such as fuel economy, backseat space, and the lack of Android integration.

Really enjoyed owning this car, driving experience was good. Tech was good and great mileage. The only downside was oil leaks once you pass 100,000 miles other than that it was reliable, I always made it home never had to use roadside assistance.

How much does the 2015 BMW 3 Series cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $10,645 |
| Year-Round Low | $10,566 |
| Year-Round High | $11,386 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $11,385 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −6.50% |
Prices have softened 6.50% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 1,385 listings available, which suggests you have a workable amount of inventory to compare.
Is the 2015 BMW 3 Series a good car?
Yes — the 4.73/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction, and the expert rating is 7.5/10. The standout strength is Performance at 9/10.
Owners repeatedly praise the solid build quality, impressive handling, and luxurious interior. They also highlight the smooth driving experience and strong performance, which fits the 3 Series’ role as a driver-focused sport-luxury sedan. The overview also frames it as a car that leans hard into driving enjoyment while still serving as a sedan you can live with every day.
With 31.6% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market gives you some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2015 BMW 3 Series reliable?
Owners rate it 4.73/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback also points to a dependable-feeling ownership experience, with praise for solid build quality and a car that many drivers feel good about living with over time. The expert assessment reinforces that sense of durability by emphasizing the 3 Series’ well-built chassis and composed driving character.
BMW’s own safety and convenience equipment also supports confidence in day-to-day use, and the available maintenance-friendly ownership experience can help reduce some early ownership friction. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that higher-mileage examples may bring age-related repair costs, so condition and service history matter a lot.
What should I look for when buying a used 2015 BMW 3 Series?
At 52.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has higher mileage or incomplete service records. Focus on signs of prior bodywork, uneven panel gaps, worn interior controls, and any evidence that the car has been driven hard or maintained inconsistently. Because this model can be expensive to own relative to its age, condition matters more than chasing the lowest sticker price.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The lineup spans sedan, wagon, and Gran Turismo body styles, with available equipment ranging from basic to leather, navigation, heated front seats, parking assistance, and M-badged touches. Base versions are the most stripped-down, so you should compare equipment carefully if you want a more premium feel.
- Powertrain: You can find 2.0-liter turbo, 3.0-liter turbo, and 2.0-liter turbodiesel engines, with rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive and automatic or manual transmissions depending on configuration. The 328 is described as the best balance for many buyers, while the 320 can feel underpowered and the 335 is the most forceful choice.
- Safety package: BMW includes standard antilock brakes, front and rear head protection systems, airbags for driver and passenger, and emergency notification systems. Available driver-assist packages add blind-spot monitoring, rear- and top-view cameras, lane-departure warnings, and adaptive cruise control.
- Infotainment: ConnectedDrive is straightforward, and the navigation upgrade adds a larger screen and heads-up display. Bluetooth audio streaming, satellite radio, and rear-view camera functionality may require separate packages, so check carefully before you buy.
- Fuel efficiency: EPA figures range from 24 mpg city/36 highway/28 combined for the most efficient gas setup to 20/28/23 for the thirstiest 6-cylinder manual, while the diesel returns 32/45/37. All-wheel drive reduces mileage by roughly 5 percent.
Which 2015 BMW 3 Series trim should I buy?
The 2015 BMW 3 Series is offered in 3 trim levels: 320, 328, 335.
Here's the short version:
- 320: This is the entry point, but the 2.0-liter turbo can feel underpowered in some situations. It makes the most sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the 3 Series and care more about the chassis than outright speed.
- 328: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers. The extra power over the 320 makes it feel much more balanced, and the expert assessment suggests it may be the sweet spot for buyers who want the right mix of performance and everyday usability.
- 335: This is the performance choice, with the 3.0-liter turbo 6-cylinder delivering the strongest acceleration and the most dramatic driving experience. It suits you best if you want the most powerful version and are willing to pay more for it.
BMW also offers driver-assist packages with blind-spot monitoring, rear- and top-view cameras, and Active Driving Assistant, so check whether the car you’re considering has the safety equipment you want.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2015 BMW 3 Series?
This looks like a moderate buyer’s market, so you can shop selectively without expecting deep distress pricing across the board.
- Deal availability: 31.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,385 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.50% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 52.1% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $10,566, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2015 BMW 3 Series's resale value?
The current average of $10,645 sits slightly below last year's $11,385.
That decline suggests the market has softened, which can be good news if you’re buying now but less favorable if you plan to sell soon. A lower current price can help you get in at a better value, but it also means you should be realistic about future depreciation if you own the car for only a short time. Well-kept examples with strong equipment and clean history should still be easier to move than neglected ones.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.73/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2015 BMW 3 Series safe?
The 2015 BMW 3 Series earns a five-star overall rating from NHTSA, including five-star ratings in side collision and rollover crash tests. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety also gave it strong ratings in all crash tests except the small-overlap front test, which earned a marginal rating.
It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.
BMW includes standard antilock brakes, front and rear head protection systems, airbags for driver and passenger, and emergency notification systems. Available driver-assistance packages add blind-spot monitoring, rear- and top-view cameras, lane-departure warnings, and adaptive cruise control.
The main caveat is the marginal small-overlap front result, so you should pay close attention to crash history and body condition when shopping used examples.
Should I buy a 2015 BMW 3 Series or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2015 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2015 if:
- 31.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 52.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.50% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.73/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2015 keeps the 3 Series focused on sedan driving dynamics while still offering strong performance and broad trim choice.
Consider the 2014 if:
- At $10,085, the 2014 costs less than the current year's $10,645 average.
- It emphasizes deft handling and silky engines in a clean, engaging 4-door package.
Consider the 2016 if:
- At $11,678, the 2016 costs more than the current year's $10,645 average.
- It leans harder into sports-car-like performance while still remaining usable for everyday driving.
The bottom line: If you want the best mix of price, performance, and available inventory, the 2015 is the primary year to target. If your budget is tighter, the 2014 can save you money while keeping the core 3 Series character intact. If you want a more performance-first feel and can spend more, the 2016 is the stronger alternative.
