What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Volvo S60?

At 65.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any prior damage was repaired properly. Then prioritize a thorough inspection of the body, suspension, electronics, and any safety-related equipment, since condition can vary meaningfully from one used example to another. It also helps to compare service records against the asking price so you can separate a clean, well-kept car from one that only looks good on paper.

Other available safety tech includes intelligent cruise control, forward-collision warning, full auto brake, pedestrian and cyclist detection, and road-sign information.

• Deal availability: 31.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 263 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.02% compared with last year.

What is the 2014 Volvo S60's resale value?

The current average of $8,114 sits slightly below last year's $9,118.

That decline suggests the market has become more buyer-friendly, which can make it harder for you to recover top dollar if you sell soon. On the other hand, it also means your entry price is lower than it was a year ago, which can help offset future depreciation if you buy carefully.

Because the S60’s pricing has already softened, a well-kept example with strong service history may hold up better than a neglected one. Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

The 2014 Volvo S60 earns five-star ratings in all NHTSA tests and a Top Safety Pick+ designation from the IIHS.

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

That package adds a blind-spot monitor, cross-traffic alert, lane-change merge aid, and parking sensors.

Should I buy a 2014 Volvo S60 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2014 if:

• 31.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 65.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.02% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The 2014 stands out for its Top Safety Pick+ rating and five-star NHTSA results.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $9,059, the 2015 costs more than the current year's $8,114 average.
• It brings fresh styling and new Drive-E engines.

The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2014 is the stronger starting point because prices have eased and inventory is available. If you are willing to spend more for a newer feel and updated powertrains, the 2015 is the better alternative.
