What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Volvo S60?

At 65.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or a car with limited service records. Focus on signs of prior body damage, repair quality, and whether the car’s equipment matches the trim level you’re paying for.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base T5 FWD includes LED daytime running lights, dual-zone climate control, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, Bluetooth connectivity, rain-sensing wipers, 17-inch alloy wheels, a 7-inch display screen, and a 6-month satellite radio subscription. Higher trims add conveniences such as a push-button ignition, moonroof, leather upholstery, rear-view camera, navigation, premium audio, sport seats, unique styling cues, and HID headlights.
• Powertrain: The T5 uses a turbocharged 2.5-liter 5-cylinder with 250 hp and 266 lb-ft of torque, while T6 variants add a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline 6-cylinder with 300 hp and 325 lb-ft of torque. The R-Design version is retuned to 325 hp and 354 lb-ft of torque, and the engines run on regular-grade gasoline.
• Safety package: The S60 includes a strong safety structure, multiple airbags, ABS, and available driver aids such as intelligent cruise control, forward-collision warning, full auto brake, pedestrian and cyclist detection, road-sign information, and the Blind Spot Information System Package with blind-spot monitor, cross-traffic alert, lane-change merge aid, and parking sensors.
• Infotainment: The cabin uses a 7-inch display screen that is not a touchscreen, with controls handled through dashboard buttons and a dial. The system is designed to be intuitive, though phone pairing can take some effort.
• Fuel efficiency: The T5 is rated at 20 mpg city and 30 mpg highway, while the 3.0-liter T6 is rated at 18 mpg city and 25 mpg highway. The expert evaluation also notes that the S60 is not a gas guzzler, though it trails some rivals on efficiency.

Which 2014 Volvo S60 trim should I buy?

The 2014 Volvo S60 is offered in 10 trim levels: T5 FWD, T5 FWD Premier, T5 FWD Premier Plus, T5 FWD Platinum, T6 AWD, T6 AWD Premier Plus, T6 AWD Platinum, T6 AWD R-Design, T6 AWD R-Design Platinum, and T6 AWD Premier.

• T5 FWD Premier: This adds a push-button ignition, moonroof, leather upholstery, and power adjustment for the front passenger seat. It’s a good step up if you want a more upscale feel without jumping too far in price.
• T5 FWD Premier Plus: This trim adds a universal garage door opener and a rear-view camera. It’s the best-value choice if you want a more useful daily driver with a key convenience upgrade.
• T5 FWD Platinum: This version adds navigation, a 650-watt premium Surround Sound audio system, and auto-dimming exterior mirrors. Choose it if you want the most comfort and tech in the front-wheel-drive lineup.
• T6 AWD: This brings the stronger 3.0-liter engine, standard all-wheel drive, sport seats, 18-inch alloys, driver-selectable steering modes, paddle shifters, and a dynamic chassis. It’s the right pick if you care most about performance and all-weather traction.
• T6 AWD Premier Plus: This trim builds on the T6 AWD with added convenience equipment, making it a sensible middle ground for buyers who want more than the base T6 without going all the way to the top.
• T6 AWD Platinum: This is the more luxurious T6 choice, adding the richer equipment mix you’d expect from the Platinum name. It suits buyers who want the stronger engine and a more fully loaded cabin.
• T6 AWD R-Design: This is the enthusiast-oriented choice, with unique front and rear styling cues, performance-tuned underpinnings, exclusive upholstery and interior details, and HID headlights. It’s the one to buy if you want the most engaging personality.
• T6 AWD R-Design Platinum: This is the most fully equipped performance trim, combining the R-Design character with the Platinum’s added luxury and tech. It’s the top pick if you want the most complete version of the S60.
• T6 AWD Premier: This trim sits in the AWD lineup with the core T6 hardware and a more accessible equipment mix than the upper trims.

The safety package note is simple: the S60’s strongest driver-assistance features are available rather than universally standard, so check each listing carefully for equipment.

Should I buy a 2014 Volvo S60 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2014 if:

• 28.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 65.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.43% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The 2014 combines strong safety with a more engaging R-Design personality.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $8,959, the 2015 costs more than the current year's $8,057 average.
• It gets a fresh look and new Drive-E engines.

The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2014 is the stronger buy because pricing has softened and the safety and owner-satisfaction story is still compelling. If you’re willing to spend more for a fresher feel, the 2015 is the better alternative, especially if updated styling matters to you.
