How much does the 2014 Toyota 4Runner cost?

There are 659 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of options to compare.

Is the 2014 Toyota 4Runner a good car?

Yes — the 2014 Toyota 4Runner earns a 5/5 user rating and an 8.2/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Form and function, Cost effectiveness, and Technology.

It stands out as a traditional body-on-frame SUV with true off-road capability, while still remaining usable for everyday driving. The overview and expert notes both emphasize its rugged character, durable construction, and ability to balance trail use with freeway comfort.

The market also shows 30.3% of listings as good or great deals, which suggests there are worthwhile opportunities if you shop carefully.

Is the 2014 Toyota 4Runner reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 4Runner’s rugged, truck-based construction is part of its appeal, and the expert notes describe it as a vehicle built for harder use rather than soft crossover duty. Its traditional powertrain and durable SUV layout reinforce that sense of toughness.

Toyota also positions it as a vehicle with strong value retention, which usually goes hand in hand with broad buyer confidence over time. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is finding one that has been used hard off-road or poorly maintained.

What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Toyota 4Runner?

At 56.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if the SUV has been used off pavement. Focus on signs of frame, suspension, underbody, and drivetrain wear, since this model is built for tougher use than a typical crossover.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The SR5 is the starting point with 17-inch alloy wheels, a multi-information display, leather-trimmed steering wheel, and standard Bluetooth hands-free calling. The Trail adds off-road crawl control and increased ground clearance, while the Limited brings 20-inch wheels, front and rear parking sensors, dual-zone climate control, and more upscale equipment.
• Powertrain: The 4Runner uses a 4.0-liter V6 with 270 horsepower and 278 pound-feet of torque, paired with a 5-speed automatic. Rear-wheel drive is available on the SR5, 4WD is standard on the Trail, and the Limited uses full-time 4WD with Active Traction Control.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes Vehicle Stability Control, Traction Control, antilock brakes, Brake Assist, Smart Stop Technology, front and side impact airbags, side impact door beams, and a tire pressure monitoring system.
• Infotainment: A 6.1-inch touchscreen is optional on the Trail and standard on the Trail Premium sub-trim. It adds iPod/aux connectivity, HD radio, and an integrated backup camera, while the Trail Premium also gets Entune App Suite.
• Fuel efficiency: The SR5 RWD returns 17 mpg city and 22 highway, while 4WD versions return 17/21.

Which 2014 Toyota 4Runner trim should I buy?

The 2014 Toyota 4Runner is offered in 3 trim levels: SR5, Trail, Limited.

Here's the short version:

• SR5: This is the best-value starting point if you want the 4Runner’s core ruggedness without paying for off-road extras or luxury upgrades. You still get the essentials, including Bluetooth, a leather-trimmed steering wheel, and the 17-inch wheel setup.
• Trail: This is the trim to choose if you want the 4Runner’s off-road personality to come through most clearly. It adds crawl control and more ground clearance, and it suits you best if trail use matters more than road comfort.
• Limited: This is the right pick if you want the most road-friendly and upscale version. It adds 20-inch wheels, parking sensors, dual-zone climate control, and a smoother, more refined driving feel.

The safety package includes Vehicle Stability Control, Traction Control, antilock brakes, Brake Assist, Smart Stop Technology, front and side impact airbags, side impact door beams, and a tire pressure monitoring system.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Toyota 4Runner?

The market looks moderately favorable if you are selective and willing to compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 30.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 659 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.13% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 56.9% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $19,593, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2014 Toyota 4Runner's resale value?

The current average of $20,330 sits slightly below last year's $20,771.

That modest decline suggests the market has eased a bit, but not dramatically. For you as a future seller, that means the 4Runner is still holding value reasonably well relative to many used SUVs. Its rugged reputation and loyal buyer base should continue to support demand.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2014 Toyota 4Runner safe?

The 2014 Toyota 4Runner earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

It comes standard with Vehicle Stability Control, Traction Control, antilock brakes, Brake Assist, Smart Stop Technology, front and side impact airbags, side impact door beams, and a tire pressure monitoring system. The truck-based construction and upright seating position also contribute to strong visibility and a sturdy feel behind the wheel.

A key caveat is that this is a traditional SUV, so it may feel less carlike than newer crossovers if you are not used to that driving style.

Should I buy a 2014 Toyota 4Runner or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2014 if:

• 30.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 56.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.13% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It combines true off-road capability with everyday usability.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $21,491, the 2015 costs more than the current year's $20,330 average.
• It leans harder into serious off-road use and cargo-hauling utility.

The bottom line: If you want the better value and a broader pool of listings, the 2014 is the smarter starting point. If your priority is more specialized off-road focus and you are willing to pay more, the 2015 is the alternative to watch.

How does the 2014 Toyota 4Runner compare to the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

Our experts score the 2014 Toyota 4Runner 8.2/10 and the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee 7.5/10.

The 4Runner is the more traditional, rugged SUV, while the Grand Cherokee is the more road-oriented alternative. You get stronger off-road character and a more durable truck-based feel in the Toyota, but the Jeep offers a lower average used price and more listings to shop from. If you want a tougher, more old-school SUV, the 4Runner is the better fit; if you want more value and a broader market, the Grand Cherokee is worth a look.
