Overview

Despite all the attention paid to Scion’s heady FR-S, the Toyota spinoff’s 2014 tC compact hatchback coupe continues to offer some serious bang for the buck. The front-wheel-drive-only, 5-seat Scion tC represents the automaker’s top selling product, and this year offers a nod to its performance-oriented sibling with some added styling muscle, a few upgraded interior features, a retuned suspension and a beefier chassis.
Scion’s compact 2-door is again offered in the traditional Base trim, and this year, a limited-production Scion 10 Series trim commemorating Scion’s tenth year in the automaking business replaces last year’s Release Series 8.0. Meanwhile, the traditional and less-than-generous 14.7 cubic feet of cargo space remains enhanced with split-folding rear seatbacks, while the 4-cylinder powerplant gets matched up this year with an available automatic transmission that boasts Scion’s touted Dynamic Rev Management for crisper downshifts.
A 2.5-liter inline 4-cylinder (I4) engine remains the mainstay of the tC fleet, and mated with either the standard 6-speed manual transmission or the reworked 6-speed shiftable automatic, puts out 179 hp and 172 lb-ft of torque. Mileage, a minor distraction for more than a few reviewers, is estimated at a somewhat tepid 23 mpg city/31 highway with either transmission.
Although it’s not exactly luxurious, the 2014 version of the tC Base is pretty well equipped for a value-flaunting commuter car. Outside, this pint-size 2-door totes standard 18-inch alloy wheels, a power sunroof and power-adjustable mirrors. Inside, look for cloth upholstery, sport front seats with a height-adjustable driver’s seat, full power accessories, a leather and simulated alloy steering wheel, and simulated alloy dashboard trim. Then there’s the standard cruise control and telescoping tilt-wheel steering for convenience, while everyone cools off with manual air conditioning. Bluetooth hands-free calling is delivered in this entry-level trim as well, with entertainment provided by a single-CD player boasting 8 Pioneer speakers and a USB port, and the whole shebang is interfaced with a new-for-2014 6.1-inch touchscreen display.
The new Scion 10 Series tC adds 18-inch painted alloy wheels, a unique exterior silver paint scheme, some extra cabin illumination and premium stitching on the leather-wrapped steering wheel and cloth seats.
The list of options available for the 2014 Scion tC includes upsized and upgraded wheels, upgraded TRD (Toyota Racing Division) drivetrain and suspension add-ons, and an updated version of Scion’s BeSpoke audio interface system that flaunts a navigation suite and added smartphone apps. A rear spoiler can also be delivered with either tC trim, along with remote engine start and the comprehensive Scion Security System.
Safety-wise, finally, look for 4-wheel antilock brakes (ABS), traction and stability control, front side-mounted airbags, and front and rear head airbags to be standard in both trims. Turn-signal-integrated mirrors are also standard across the board, while the Scion 10 Series, as befits its top-shelf status, comes with standard front headrest whiplash protection and projector beam headlights.

The car has been so far so good, I love it! I’m used to cars keeping me stranded, and I can tell this one will take me where I need to go. I will be giving a more updated experience with the car soon.

See more price trendsHow much does the 2014 Scion tC cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $10,276 |
| Year-Round Low | $9,191.04 |
| Year-Round High | $10,421.21 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $10,283 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −0.07% |
Prices have held steady compared to this time last year, signaling a stable and predictable market for this model year.
There are 125 listings available, which suggests a modest amount of inventory for shoppers to compare.
If you find a listing below $9,191.04, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2014 Scion tC a good car?
Yes — the 2014 Scion tC earns a 4.75/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction.
Owners consistently praise its reliability, comfortable ride, enjoyable driving experience, spacious interior, and appealing design features.
With 30.4% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have a meaningful chance to find a competitively priced example.
Is the 2014 Scion tC reliable?
Owners rate it 4.75/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to reliability, and it also describes the car as dependable enough to make daily use feel easy and reassuring. That kind of praise matters when you want a used car you can count on over the long term.
For used buyers, the main ownership risk is choosing a car with hidden wear or uneven maintenance history, so condition and records matter as much as the rating.
What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Scion tC?
At 41.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any reported damage was repaired properly. After that, prioritize a pre-purchase inspection so you can check for signs of uneven wear, poor repairs, or lingering mechanical issues.
Focus closely on overall condition, since a clean-looking listing can still hide past damage or deferred maintenance.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Scion tC?
This is a moderate market, so you can be selective without expecting every good listing to disappear instantly.
- Deal availability: 30.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 125 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 41.6% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $9,191.04, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2014 Scion tC's resale value?
The current average of $10,276 sits slightly below last year's $10,283.
That small decline suggests the market has been fairly stable, which can help future sellers because it points to predictable pricing rather than sharp depreciation swings. If you buy well and keep the car in strong condition, you may be better positioned when it's time to sell.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.75/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2014 Scion tC or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2014 if:
- 30.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 41.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.75/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: If you want a used coupe with strong owner satisfaction and a stable price profile, the 2014 is a sensible primary choice. If you're especially price-sensitive, focus on the best-priced listings and be extra careful about history and condition so you can separate a true bargain from a car that needs more work.
