Why it stands out
The 2014 Nissan Maxima stands out as a large sedan that still leans into sporty character. It uses a 3.5-liter V6 with 290 horsepower and 261 lb-ft of torque, and Nissan paired it with a CVT that was described as having unprecedented performance. The car also kept the handling side of the formula alive, helped by its smaller but wider stance and improved technology. Even so, it was still not as roomy as full-size rivals, with a back seat no larger than a BMW 3 Series.
For 2014, Nissan added several useful standard features that made the Maxima feel well equipped. Xenon headlights, a USB port, a 7-inch touchscreen, a rearview camera, and satellite radio all became standard equipment that year. The Maxima also offered a long list of available and standard convenience and tech features for the generation, including an 8-inch color display with navigation across all trims and advanced driver-assistance features on the top trims. It earned “Top Safety Pick” or “Top Safety Pick+” designations from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety every year it was on sale.
As a used car, the 2014 Maxima appeals to buyers who want style, strong acceleration, and a generous feature set at a relatively low price. The tradeoff is that it is not the most spacious choice in its class, and the CVT may not be the most engaging transmission for enthusiasts. Still, for shoppers who value a comfortable, well-equipped sedan with a sporty edge, it remains a distinctive option.

Great car! Awesome features. The only thing I plan to add is a remote starter and a rear spoiler. Runs like a dream!

This car that was purchased and found on CarGurus is exceptionally. Really nice car with good miles for the year and the price wasn’t bad.

I love the 2014 Nissan Maxima. Everything about it is great. I am single, but I would keep this car until I started a family. It has speed but also great space for everyone in the car to fit comfortably.

The car was as advertised and has already completed a couple of 200+ mile trips. The only thing it didn’t have, but I expected, was a USB port. An easy fix. We were looking at SUVs, but the trunk and fold down rear seat provide enough space. It rides and drives great and is smooth on the road. Great price.

How much does the 2014 Nissan Maxima cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $7,618 |
| Year-Round Low | $7,586 |
| Year-Round High | $8,248 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $8,247 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −7.62% |
Prices have softened 7.62% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 145 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare before you buy.
Is the 2014 Nissan Maxima a good car?
Yes — the 4.8/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners consistently praise the stylish design, comfortable interior, impressive power, smooth ride, and handling, which fits a large sedan that still leans sporty. For you, that means this model makes the most sense if you want a comfortable, well-equipped sedan with strong acceleration and a distinctive character rather than maximum cabin space. With 22.8% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2014 Nissan Maxima reliable?
Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback also points to a dependable-feeling ownership experience, with praise for the car’s comfort, power, and smooth driving manners. Some drivers mention concerns with the transmission and rear handling, so a careful test drive matters if you want confidence in long-term use. For used buyers, the main ownership risk is making sure the specific car you choose has been maintained well and drives cleanly.
What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Nissan Maxima?
At 51% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report so you can separate clean examples from cars with prior damage. After that, prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if you notice anything unusual in the transmission behavior, steering feel, or rear-end stability. Focus on overall condition and maintenance records, because the best used example will be the one that feels sorted rather than simply the cheapest listing.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Nissan Maxima?
This is a moderate market, so you can shop selectively without expecting a deep buyer’s market.
- Deal availability: 22.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 145 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.62% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 51.0% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $7,586, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2014 Nissan Maxima's resale value?
The current average of $7,618 sits slightly below last year's $8,247.
That decline suggests the market has softened, which can work against you if you buy at the wrong price and plan to sell soon. On the other hand, the lower entry cost may help you limit depreciation exposure compared with a stronger-priced market. If you choose a well-kept example and avoid overpaying, you give yourself a better chance of holding value reasonably well.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2014 Nissan Maxima or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2014 if:
- 22.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 51% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.62% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: If you want a sporty, well-equipped sedan and you find a clean, well-priced example, the 2014 is the primary path to consider. If you are especially price-sensitive, you should also compare nearby model years and focus on the best-maintained car rather than the newest badge alone.
