Why it stands out
The 2014 Nissan Maxima stands out as a well-equipped, sporty-feeling sedan that still leans into comfort. It came with a 3.5-liter V6 rated at 290 horsepower and 261 lb-ft of torque, and Nissan paired it with a CVT that helped deliver quick acceleration while preserving decent fuel mileage. The Maxima also offered a strong list of standard equipment for its class, including 18-inch alloy wheels, automatic headlights, cruise control, a sunroof, keyless ignition and entry, dual-zone automatic climate control, power front seats, leather touches, and an in-dash six-CD changer with an auxiliary audio jack. For buyers who wanted a used sedan with a premium feel and plenty of features, that combination made the 2014 Maxima appealing.
It also had a reputation for capable handling and a more engaging driving character than many mainstream sedans, even if it was not truly a full-size car. The 2014 model added xenon headlights, a USB port, a 7-inch touchscreen, a rearview camera, and satellite radio as standard equipment, which helped keep it competitive on convenience and tech. At the same time, its back seat was no larger than a BMW 3 Series, so space was not its strongest suit, and the CVT may not be the sportiest choice for a car with this image. Still, the 2014 Maxima’s mix of style, power, and equipment gives it a distinctive place among used sedans.

Great car! Awesome features. The only thing I plan to add is a remote starter and a rear spoiler. Runs like a dream!

I love the 2014 Nissan Maxima. Everything about it is great. I am single, but I would keep this car until I started a family. It has speed but also great space for everyone in the car to fit comfortably.

The car was as advertised and has already completed a couple of 200+ mile trips. The only thing it didn’t have, but I expected, was a USB port. An easy fix. We were looking at SUVs, but the trunk and fold down rear seat provide enough space. It rides and drives great and is smooth on the road. Great price.

How much does the 2014 Nissan Maxima cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $7,603 |
| Year-Round Low | $7,586 |
| Year-Round High | $8,214 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $8,135 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −6.53% |
Prices have softened 6.53% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 140 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare before you buy.
Is the 2014 Nissan Maxima a good car?
Yes — the 2014 Nissan Maxima earns a 4.8/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners consistently praise its stylish design, comfortable interior, and impressive power, and many also like the smooth ride and handling. For you, that makes it a compelling choice if you want a sporty-feeling sedan with a premium vibe and plenty of features. The market also shows 22.9% of listings as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2014 Nissan Maxima reliable?
Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Owner feedback also highlights dependable everyday comfort, with many drivers describing the car as smooth and enjoyable to live with over time. The same reviews point to a generally trouble-free ownership experience for many buyers, though some mention transmission concerns. For used-car shoppers, that means long-term ownership risk is worth checking carefully, especially if you want a car you can count on for daily driving.
What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Nissan Maxima?
At 47.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report so you can separate clean examples from cars with prior damage. After that, prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, with extra attention to the transmission, rear-end behavior, and overall condition. Because this model has a sporty character and a premium feature set, you’ll want to make sure the car’s mechanical and cosmetic condition matches the asking price.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Nissan Maxima?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find value.
- Deal availability: 22.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 140 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.53% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 47.1% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $7,586, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2014 Nissan Maxima's resale value?
The current average of $7,603 sits slightly below last year's $8,135.
That price movement suggests the model has softened, which can make it easier for you to buy at a reasonable entry point today. For a future seller, that also means resale value may depend more on condition, mileage, and how well the car has been maintained. A clean history and strong presentation matter more when the market is already pricing the car below where it was a year ago.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2014 Nissan Maxima or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2014 if:
- 22.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 47.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.53% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: You should focus on the 2014 if you want a sporty, well-equipped sedan and you’re willing to shop carefully for a clean example. If price is your top priority, this year can still make sense because the market has softened and there are some good deals available, but you’ll want to be selective about condition and history before committing.
