Used 2014 Nissan Frontier for Sale near Iowa

How much does the 2014 Nissan Frontier cost?

Prices have held steady compared to this time last year, signaling a stable and predictable market for this model year.

There are 420 listings available, which gives you a workable pool to compare prices and equipment.

Is the 2014 Nissan Frontier a good car?

Generally — the 2014 Nissan Frontier earns a 4.4/5 user rating and a 6.5/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Performance at 9/10.

Owners commonly praise its reliability, good fuel economy, and decent interior design. The Frontier’s rugged look and feel also fit the use case for weekend surfers or off-roading excursions, so it makes the most sense if you want a compact truck for recreation rather than heavy-duty work. Even with that appeal, the market still shows only 31.2% good or great deals, so value depends heavily on the specific listing.

Is the 2014 Nissan Frontier reliable?

Owners rate it 4.4/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback points to reliability, and the broader ownership picture suggests a truck that many drivers feel they can count on. The expert evaluation also describes favorable quality and reliability ratings, which supports the idea that the Frontier can be a dependable used buy if it has been maintained well. The first scheduled maintenance visit is on the house.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is not the basic durability story but the condition of the individual truck, since wear, neglect, or prior damage can quickly change the ownership equation.

What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Nissan Frontier?

At 61.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the truck has been used off-road or for towing. Focus on body condition, underbody wear, and signs of hard use, since this model’s appeal often comes from recreation-oriented ownership. It also makes sense to compare equipment carefully, because the Frontier’s value changes a lot with trim and package content.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Frontier comes in S, SV, Desert Runner, PRO-4X and SL. The S is the most basic version, while the SV adds more everyday convenience, the Desert Runner emphasizes style with a rear-wheel-drive setup, the PRO-4X is the off-road-focused choice, and the SL adds more comfort-oriented equipment. If you want the best value, the SV is the trim that most clearly balances useful features and price.
• Powertrain: You can get a 4-cylinder or 6-cylinder engine, along with rear-wheel drive or 4-wheel drive depending on configuration. The 4.0-liter V6 delivers strong acceleration and enough muscle for towing and trail use, while the 2.5-liter 4-cylinder is the more basic choice.
• Safety package: The Frontier includes antilock brakes, stability control, a limited-slip differential, rear parking sensors and a back-up camera. The PRO-4X Luxury package adds more convenience and comfort equipment, but the core safety content is fairly basic by modern standards.
• Infotainment: The available NissanConnect system includes Bluetooth smartphone pairing with streaming audio, a text-messaging assistant, live traffic updates, gas prices, mobile apps, navigation, voice commands, satellite or Internet radio, a USB port and an auxiliary audio input jack. The touchscreen is rather small and can suffer from sun glare.
• Fuel efficiency: The Frontier is rated at 15 mpg city and 21 mpg highway, for 17 mpg combined. In testing, it averaged 14.6 mpg.

Which 2014 Nissan Frontier trim should I buy?

The 2014 Nissan Frontier is offered in 5 trim levels: S, SV, Desert Runner, PRO-4X and SL.

Here's the short version:

• S: This is the most basic Frontier, with a 4-cylinder engine, a manual transmission and 15-inch steel wheels. If you want the lowest entry point and can live with a stripped-down setup, this is the starting point, but it is light on convenience features unless you add the automatic transmission or S Preferred package.
• SV: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds 16-inch alloy wheels, power accessories, a tilt steering wheel, a 4.3-inch color radio display, satellite radio, a USB port and an auxiliary audio input jack. With the Value Truck package, you can also add dual-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats, rear parking sensors, a rear-view camera, a bed extender, adjustable cargo tie-down cleats and a Class IV trailer hitch.
• Desert Runner: This trim is aimed at buyers who want a truck that looks more adventurous, with special exterior and interior styling treatments, fog lights, Bilstein shock absorbers and off-road tires. It is rear-wheel drive only, so it is more about appearance and a tougher stance than full off-road hardware.
• PRO-4X: This is the choice for serious off-roading ambitions. It adds off-road tires, Bilstein shocks, a locking rear differential, underbody skid plates and automatic headlights, and the Luxury package layers in a sunroof, roof rack with cross bars, leather upholstery, power-adjustable front seats and NissanConnect.
• SL: This trim keeps most of the PRO-4X Luxury package’s comfort features but drops the off-road equipment. It adds 18-inch alloy wheels and side steps, so it suits you if you want a more upscale Frontier without the trail-focused hardware.

The safety content points to a fairly basic safety setup overall, so trim choice should focus more on equipment, use case and condition than on major safety differences.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Nissan Frontier?

The market looks selective rather than overheated, so you can shop patiently and still find a decent truck if you compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 31.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 420 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 61.4% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $13,043, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2014 Nissan Frontier's resale value?

The current average of $13,567 sits slightly below last year's $13,663.

That small decline suggests the Frontier’s pricing has been stable rather than volatile, which is helpful if you plan to sell later. A steady market can make it easier to estimate your truck’s value and avoid sharp surprises. The model’s mixed value reputation may limit upside, but strong owner satisfaction helps support demand.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2014 Nissan Frontier safe?

The Frontier earns Good ratings from IIHS for moderate overlap frontal impact, side impact and roof crush protection, and an Acceptable rating for rear-impact seat and head restraint protection. The 4WD model gets a four-star rollover rating from NHTSA, while RWD models get a three-star rating.

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

The Frontier’s safety equipment includes antilock brakes, stability control, a limited-slip differential, rear parking sensors and a back-up camera. That said, it lacks the more advanced driver-assistance technology you’ll find in newer trucks, so you should not expect a modern safety feature set. The main caveat is that its safety tech is dated, especially compared with newer pickups.

Should I buy a 2014 Nissan Frontier or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2014 if:

• 31.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 61.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The Frontier may work well for weekend surfers or off-roading excursions, but it comes up short for those who need to haul lots of stuff lots of the time.

The bottom line: If you want a rugged, compact truck with a straightforward personality and you can live with its compromises, the 2014 Frontier is a reasonable used buy. If your priority is more utility, better fuel economy, or a more modern all-around truck, you should also consider other years or a different pickup. Price-sensitive buyers should focus on the cleanest, best-equipped example they can find rather than chasing the cheapest listing.
