Is the 2014 Nissan Altima a good car?

The standout strength is Form and function at 9/10.

Owners most often praise its comfort, stylish interior, and fuel efficiency, and the sound system also gets strong marks. That lines up with the car’s role as a commuter-friendly family sedan that focuses on everyday usefulness. It is also framed as safe, fuel-efficient, comfortable, and affordable, which fits buyers who value low-drama transportation.

Only 25.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so the market is selective rather than flooded with bargains.

Is the 2014 Nissan Altima reliable?

The 2014 Nissan Altima is presented as a cost-conscious sedan with mixed long-term reliability signals. Owners describe it as comfortable and fuel-efficient, and the review summary also points to a solid commuter-friendly character.

For used buyers, that means the biggest risk is not catastrophic ownership cost so much as the possibility of repair-related surprises and condition-dependent upkeep.

What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Nissan Altima?

At 47.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should run a vehicle history report before you commit, then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that checks for prior bodywork, uneven panel gaps, and signs of wear that could point to harder use. Focus on overall condition rather than mileage alone, since repair history and maintenance quality matter a lot on a used sedan like this.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base 2.5 trim is the most stripped-down version, while higher trims add features such as cruise control, a power driver’s seat, more speakers, passive entry, dual-zone climate control, a reversing camera, leather seating, heated front seats, and a heated steering wheel. If you want the best balance of equipment and value, the 2.5 SV is the popular middle ground.
• Powertrain: The standard 2.5-liter 4-cylinder uses Nissan’s Xtronic CVT and is tuned for efficiency, while the 3.5-liter V6 adds more power and quicker acceleration at the cost of fuel economy. The CVT is smooth in normal use, but it can drone under hard acceleration.
• Safety package: The Technology Package adds navigation, Moving-Object Detection, Blind-Spot Warning, and Lane-Departure Warning on SV and SL trims. Those features are not part of the base setup, so check carefully if you want them.
• Infotainment: Most versions use NissanConnect Apps with a 5-inch touchscreen, while the navigation-equipped setup brings a larger 7-inch display. Wireless smartphone integration is not described here, and the system’s usability is better with the larger screen.
• Fuel efficiency: The 2.5 returns 31 mpg in combined driving, while the 3.5 returns 25 mpg in combined driving. In testing, the 2.5 achieved 28.5 mpg in heavy suburban driving.

Which 2014 Nissan Altima trim should I buy?

The 2014 Nissan Altima is offered in 6 trim levels: 2.5, 2.5 S, 2.5 SV, 2.5 SL, 3.5 S, 3.5 SV, 3.5 SL.

Here's the short version:

• 2.5: This is the entry point, but it is the most basic version and misses several convenience features that show up on higher trims. It makes sense only if your priority is the lowest possible price.
• 2.5 S: This is the first trim that adds meaningful everyday value, including cruise control, a power driver’s seat, more speakers, and passive entry. It is the best-value starting point for many shoppers.
• 2.5 SV: This is the popular version and the sweet spot if you want the best mix of comfort and tech, with 17-inch wheels, dual-zone climate control, a reversing camera, and NissanConnect Apps. It is the trim most buyers should cross-shop first.
• 2.5 SL: This trim adds the most comfort-focused upgrades, including leather seats, a Bose audio system, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and more premium interior touches. Choose it if you want a more upscale daily driver.
• 3.5 S: This version adds the V6, paddle shifters, and 18-inch wheels, so it is the pick if you want more power without jumping all the way to the top.
• 3.5 SV: This trim layers V6 performance onto the SV’s equipment and adds features like a power sunroof and fog lights. It suits buyers who want stronger acceleration and more amenities.
• 3.5 SL: This is the top trim and adds high-intensity discharge headlights on top of the SL equipment. It is the most fully equipped choice if you want the V6 and the richest feature set.

The Technology Package adds navigation, Blind-Spot Warning, Lane-Departure Warning, and Moving-Object Detection to SV and SL trims.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Nissan Altima?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to shop carefully rather than rush.

• Deal availability: 25.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,428 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.55% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 47.4% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $7,543, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2014 Nissan Altima's resale value?

The current average of $7,589 sits slightly below last year's $8,120.

That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer today. If you plan to sell later, the softer pricing means your resale value may face some pressure unless your car is especially clean, well maintained, and accident-free.

For a future seller, the key takeaway is that condition will matter a lot. A well-kept Altima with strong service records should hold up better than one with prior damage or visible wear.

Is the 2014 Nissan Altima safe?

The 2014 Nissan Altima gets a five-star crash-test rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and is called a Top Safety Pick by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

The available Technology Package adds a navigation system, Moving-Object Detection, Blind-Spot Warning, and Lane-Departure Warning on SV and SL trims. Lane-Departure Warning can be switched off, and the blind-spot system is described as less effective than it should be because its warning light is not ideally placed and its alerts could be more insistent.

Should I buy a 2014 Nissan Altima or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2014 if:

• 25.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 47.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.55% compared with last year.
• The 2014 Altima is safe, fuel-efficient, comfortable, and affordable, but not especially engaging to drive.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $8,127, the 2015 costs more than the current year's $7,589 average.
• It adds more responsive handling and a more engaging all-around character.

The bottom line: If you want the lower price and can live with a sedan that prioritizes comfort, efficiency, and value, the 2014 is the better buy. If you are willing to pay more for a more engaging drive and a broader sense of balance, the 2015 is the stronger alternative.
