CarGurus Analysis: 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
overall

Summary
With 1,046 currently listed for sale and an average price of $12,641.00, 34.0% of 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class models for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class 4.78 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 6.17 / 10.
57.3% of 2014 E-Class models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class stands out as a midsize luxury sedan that blends prestige, comfort, and capability. It has long been an aspirational symbol of personal success, and it remains the most popular midsize luxury sedan in America. Even so, its appeal is not just about the badge: it is described as a safe, comfortable, and dynamically capable machine built with premium materials and equipped with industry-leading technology.
What makes the 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class especially distinctive is the way it rewards more spirited driving. In test driving, it showed that the faster it goes, the more dynamic its performance becomes, even without the optional sport suspension. That gives it a polished, Germanic character that should appeal to buyers who want a luxury sedan with real composure and a sense of athleticism.
At the same time, it is not without tradeoffs. Its value equation weakens if the Mercedes-Benz emblem is removed, and its styling is described as somewhat bland. Owner feedback also points to a soft ride and noticeable body lean, which may leave drivers wanting a sportier feel. Still, for buyers prioritizing comfort, quality, and a well-rounded luxury experience, the 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class remains an appealing choice.

| Year-Round High | $13,613.99 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $13,617 |

If you find a listing below $12,487.97, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class a good car?
Yes — the 4.78/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction, and the expert rating is 6.17/10. The standout strength is Performance at 8/10.
Owners consistently praise the luxury features, strong performance, stylish design, handling, acceleration, and interior quality. That lines up with the overview’s focus on prestige, comfort, capability, and a premium cabin, especially if you want a midsize luxury sedan that still feels composed when you drive it more aggressively.
The market also shows 33.1% good or great deals, which suggests there are still worthwhile opportunities if you shop carefully.
Is the 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class reliable?
Owners rate it 4.78/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
User feedback points to a car that feels dependable over time, with praise centered on quality, strong performance, and a premium ownership experience. The expert evaluation also says this car’s reliability should prove better than average over time, which supports the idea that it can be a trouble-free long-term choice if it has been maintained properly.
The ownership risk for used buyers is less about the model’s basic durability and more about finding one with clean records and consistent maintenance.
What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class?
At 56.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has higher mileage or a long option list. Focus on signs of prior bodywork, interior wear, suspension feel, and any electrical or infotainment quirks, since premium features can be expensive to sort out later.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The sedan lineup includes the E250 BlueTec, E350, E400 Hybrid, E550 4Matic, E63 AMG 4Matic, and E63 AMG S 4Matic. The E250 BlueTec and E350 can be optioned with 4Matic all-wheel drive, and the Sport Styling Package changes the look of the lower trims with a sport grille, split-spoke wheels, a subtle body kit, and a sport-tuned suspension. If you want the best value, the E350 is the most balanced starting point, while the AMG models bring the most aggressive appearance and equipment.
- Powertrain: The E350 test car uses a 3.5-liter V6, a 7-speed automatic transmission, and all-wheel drive. It makes 302 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque, and the car includes stop/start plus Eco, Normal, and Sport calibrations. The E250 BlueTec is the fuel-economy play, while the E550 and AMG versions are the performance-oriented choices.
- Safety package: Safety equipment is grouped into the Lane Tracking Package, which includes Blind Spot Assist and Lane Keeping Assist, and the Driver Assistance Package, which adds active versions of Lane Tracking features plus Distronic Plus cruise control with Steering Assist, Pre-Safe Brake with Pedestrian Detection, Pre-Safe Plus, and Brake Assist Plus with Cross-Traffic Assist. Some of these features are optional rather than standard, so check the build sheet carefully.
- Infotainment: The cabin uses the COMAND system, and the test car’s display is described as small. The system can include hard-drive navigation, Bluetooth, mBrace2 telematics, and Mercedes-Benz Apps, but the interface is fussy and can be slow to load. Wireless smartphone integration is not described here, so verify the exact equipment on any car you’re considering.
- Fuel efficiency: The E350 4Matic is rated at 21 mpg city, 29 mpg highway, and 24 mpg combined. The test car averaged 20.3 mpg during a week of driving. If fuel economy matters most, the E250 BlueTec is the better direction.
Which 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class trim should I buy?
The 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class is offered in 6 trim levels: E250 BlueTec, E350, E400 Hybrid, E550 4Matic, E63 AMG 4Matic, E63 AMG S 4Matic.
Here's the short version:
- E250 BlueTec: This is the efficiency-focused choice, and it makes the most sense if you want the lowest fuel-use emphasis in the lineup. It is the trim to consider if your priority is economy rather than performance or maximum equipment.
- E350: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it sits at the center of the lineup and gives you the core E-Class experience without jumping into the pricier V8 or AMG models. It also supports 4Matic, and the Sport Styling Package can sharpen the look and feel if you want a more athletic presentation.
- E400 Hybrid: This trim adds a hybrid powertrain option and sits above the E350 in price, so it suits you if you want a more specialized drivetrain and are willing to pay for it.
- E550 4Matic: This is the stronger luxury-performance step up, with standard 4Matic and the option for Airmatic adaptive air suspension. It fits you if you want more power and a more upscale feel.
- E63 AMG 4Matic: This is the performance-focused choice with more standard equipment and AMG-specific upgrades, including available Bang & Olufsen audio, carbon-fiber trim, and 19-inch forged wheels. It suits you if you want the most aggressive version short of the top model.
- E63 AMG S 4Matic: This is the top performance trim and the most expensive sedan in the lineup. Choose it only if you want the most extreme AMG character and are comfortable paying for it.
Safety equipment is packaged into the relatively simple Lane Tracking Package and the more complex Driver Assistance Package, so check whether the car you’re considering has the driver-assistance features you want.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on the right car.
- Deal availability: 33.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,074 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.64% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 56.9% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $12,487.97, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class's resale value?
The current average of $12,712 sits slightly below last year's $13,617.
That price movement suggests the market has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help future resale stability if you buy at the right price. If you purchase near the lower end of the current range and keep the car in strong condition, you give yourself a better chance of limiting your loss later.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.78/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class safe?
It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.
Safety technology is a major part of this model year’s appeal, with the Intelligent Drive umbrella bringing a stereo-vision camera system and standard Collision Prevention Assist plus an improved Attention Assist system. The available Driver Assistance Package adds Steering Assist, Active Blind Spot Assist, Active Lane Keeping Assist, Brake Assist Plus with Cross-Traffic Assist, Pre-Safe Brake, and Pre-Safe Plus.
There is also a caveat: the active lane-keeping and steering systems can feel intrusive, and the car’s autonomous behavior takes some getting used to. Since crash-test results are not cited here, your best protection is to verify that the car has the safety package you want and to inspect the operation of its driver-assistance features carefully.
Should I buy a 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2014 if:
- 33.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 56.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.64% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.78/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The expert summary highlights a safe, comfortable, dynamically capable luxury sedan with premium materials and industry-leading technology.
The bottom line: The 2014 makes sense if you want a well-regarded luxury sedan with strong owner satisfaction, a softer price than last year, and enough inventory to shop selectively. If you’re more price-sensitive, focus on the cleanest, best-documented example you can find rather than stretching for a higher-trim car with more risk and complexity.
