Why it stands out
The 2014 Chevrolet Malibu stands out as a midsize sedan that blends comfort, technology, and performance in a way that makes it more than just a basic family car. Chevrolet’s engineers deserve credit for steering that’s tight and sporty at high speeds while demanding little effort at slow speeds and when attempting to park, which gives the Malibu an easygoing feel in daily driving without giving up composure when the pace picks up. The result is a car that aims to be efficient and approachable while still feeling polished behind the wheel.
That balance is part of what makes the 2014 Malibu appealing to buyers. The summary describes it as an efficient 4-door promising enviable levels of comfort, technology and performance, and owner feedback reinforces that impression with praise for excellent fuel economy, a quiet ride, and comfort for family trips. It is also often seen as a strong value for the price. On the other hand, some owners have raised concerns about warranty issues and the absence of certain features such as fog lights, so its appeal is strongest for shoppers who prioritize comfort, efficiency, and a well-rounded driving experience over a long list of extras.

I love all the car features not over whelming with controls nice and simple. 2.5 Inline 4 Cylinder feels like a 6 and excellent gas mileage. Come with a spoiler and a turn signal painted mirrors normally found on a LT model. Vehicle was a great value less than 10 Grand with 42k miles on it. Just missing fog lights easily can be added latter.

I like that the car has automatic stop when I am stopped for awhile that really helps on the gas. I like that it has automatic start for the cold winters. I also like the 2 year worry free maintenance on my car that saves me a lot of money.

Excellent all around quality. Quiet ride, responsive engine, great looking car. Great car with lots of room for long family trips and impressive gas mileage for a car this size. This is a very good quality car and is a joy to drive.

What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Chevrolet Malibu?
At 53.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle-history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been in a prior accident or shows signs of uneven wear. Focus on body condition, panel alignment, tire wear, and any evidence of repair work, since those clues can tell you a lot about how the car was treated. If you’re comparing multiple listings, put the cleanest history and best maintenance record at the top of your list.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The entry-level LS comes with 16-inch alloy wheels, Bluetooth connectivity, OnStar, a height-adjustable driver’s seat, and cruise control, while the 1LT adds the MyLink 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, satellite radio service, voice-recognition technology, heated mirrors, and floor mats. The 2LT adds dual-zone automatic climate control, remote start, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, driver’s power lumbar adjustment, and 18-inch alloys, while the 1LTZ brings leather upholstery, unique alloy wheels, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, and heated 8-way power front seats. The 2LTZ adds a power moonroof and the upgraded engine. The best-value trim is the 1LT if you want the biggest jump in convenience and tech without moving too far up the price ladder.
- Powertrain: The Malibu uses two distinct 4-cylinder powerplants and is strictly front-wheel drive. The base 2.5-liter engine makes 196 horsepower and 191 lb-ft of torque and is paired with a 6-speed automatic, while the turbocharged 2.0-liter makes 259 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque and also uses a 6-speed automatic. The base engine is tuned for strong efficiency, and the turbo engine adds a meaningful performance boost.
- Safety package: The Malibu earned an overall 5-star rating from NHTSA and a Good ranking in all IIHS tests. Standard safety equipment includes 10 airbags, and available features include rear-side airbags, side blind-zone alert, a rear-view camera, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, and forward-collision warning. The Advanced Safety Package and LTZ Premium Package add more equipment on higher trims.
- Infotainment: The MyLink system uses a 7-inch touchscreen on the 1LT and includes text-message reading and response, iPhone-specific Eyes Free mode, Pandora, Stitcher, and voice control through Siri integration. OnStar Directions & Connections is also available, with complimentary service for the first 6 months of ownership.
- Fuel efficiency: The base 2.5-liter engine is rated at 25 mpg around town and up to 36 mpg on the highway, while the turbocharged 2.0-liter returns 21 mpg around town and 30 mpg on the highway.
Which 2014 Chevrolet Malibu trim should I buy?
The 2014 Chevrolet Malibu is offered in 6 trim levels: LS, 1LT, 2LT, 3LT, 1LTZ, 2LTZ.
Here's the short version:
- LS: This is the least expensive way into the Malibu, and it gives you the core sedan basics with Bluetooth, OnStar, cruise control, and a height-adjustable driver’s seat. It makes sense if you want the lowest entry price and can live without the nicer infotainment and comfort upgrades.
- 1LT: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds the MyLink 7-inch touchscreen, satellite radio, voice recognition, heated mirrors, and a few convenience touches without jumping too far upmarket. If you want the sweet spot between price and features, this is the one to target.
- 2LT: This trim is the better pick if you want a more upscale daily driver, thanks to dual-zone climate control, remote start, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, power lumbar adjustment, and 18-inch alloys. It’s the right choice if comfort matters more to you than keeping the budget as low as possible.
- 3LT: This version is essentially a 2LT with a more powerful standard engine, so it’s the trim to consider if you want the stronger powertrain without moving all the way to the premium-grade models.
- 1LTZ: This is the premium-grade Malibu, with leather upholstery, unique alloy wheels, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, and heated 8-way power front seats. Choose it if you want the most upscale feel and are willing to pay for it.
- 2LTZ: This trim adds a power moonroof and the upgraded engine, making it the most fully equipped version described here. It’s the right fit if you want the top-end Malibu experience.
The safety package content also notes available rear-side airbags, side blind-zone alert, a rear-view camera, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, and forward-collision warning.

- Deal availability: 26.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 758 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 5.12% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 53.4% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $7,563, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2014 Chevrolet Malibu's resale value?
The current average of $7,615 sits slightly below last year's $8,025.
That tells you the market has softened, which can help you as a buyer but may limit upside if you’re thinking about future resale. If you plan to sell later, the current pricing trend suggests you should focus on buying well and avoiding overpaying now. A clean history and strong maintenance record matter even more when the market is moving down.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
