Is the 2014 Chevrolet Impala a good car?

Yes — you’re looking at a 4.8/5 user-rated car with an expert rating of 7.8/10. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

For you, that means this model year makes the most sense if you want a large sedan that feels more premium than its badge suggests and still delivers a comfortable, refined daily drive. With 26.2% of listings marked as good or great deals, there’s also enough market activity to shop selectively.

Is the 2014 Chevrolet Impala reliable?

The expert write-up adds that the Impala was reborn with a genuinely impressive ride-and-handling package and a more premium-feeling execution than the old model.

Chevrolet’s 5-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty is a useful ownership cushion, but used buyers should still focus on maintenance history and overall condition because age and mileage will matter more than the original warranty coverage.

What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Chevrolet Impala?

At 52.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one with a price that looks unusually low. Pay close attention to bodywork quality, tire wear, brake condition, and whether the electronics and comfort features work as expected.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The LS starts with 18-inch steel wheels, a 4-cylinder engine, Bluetooth connectivity, OnStar telematics, and a power-adjustable driver’s seat, while the LT adds the Chevrolet MyLink infotainment system with an 8-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth streaming audio, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. The LTZ brings push-button ignition, remote start, heated front seats, a rear-view camera, 19-inch alloys, and more advanced safety equipment, so it’s the trim to target if you want the most complete feature set.
• Powertrain: The base 2.5-liter 4-cylinder makes 195 hp and returns 21 mpg city/31 highway. The eAssist setup pairs a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder, electric motor, and lithium-ion battery pack for 182 hp and Chevy-estimated 25/35 efficiency. The 3.6-liter V6 delivers 305 hp and 21 mpg city/28 highway, and all Impalas use a 6-speed automatic.
• Safety package: The Impala includes 10 airbags, 4-wheel antilock disc brakes, electronic stability control, and OnStar with automatic crash response and roadside assistance. LTZ models add forward-collision alert, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, a rear-view camera, blind-spot monitoring, rear parking sensors, and passive keyless entry, with intelligent cruise control and crash-imminent braking available as an option.
• Infotainment: Chevrolet MyLink uses an 8-inch touchscreen and adds voice controls, Bluetooth streaming audio, Pandora internet radio, USB connectivity, and a hidden storage compartment with a USB port and passcode lock. Lower trims are the ones where you’re more likely to miss features like Bluetooth or a touchscreen.
• Fuel efficiency: The base 4-cylinder is rated at 21 mpg city/31 highway, the V6 at 21 mpg city/28 highway, and Chevy suggests the eAssist setup should average 25/35.

Which 2014 Chevrolet Impala trim should I buy?

The 2014 Chevrolet Impala is offered in 6 trim levels: LS, LS Eco, LT, LT Eco, LTZ, and LTZ.

Here's the short version:

• LS: This is the entry point, and it gives you the basics plus Bluetooth, OnStar, and a power-adjustable driver’s seat. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the redesigned Impala, but it’s also the trim most likely to feel sparse on tech.
• LS Eco: This adds 18-inch alloy wheels and dual-zone climate control, with the eAssist hybrid system as the main differentiator. It’s the pick if you want better efficiency-oriented hardware and a little more comfort than the standard LS.
• LT: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds the MyLink system with an 8-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth streaming audio, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. If you want the Impala to feel properly modern without stretching to the top end, this is the one to focus on.
• LT Eco: This combines the LT equipment with the eAssist powertrain. Choose it if fuel economy matters more to you than outright power.
• LTZ: This is the most fully equipped choice, adding push-button ignition, remote start, heated front seats, a rear-view camera, 19-inch alloys, and more advanced safety features. It’s the right fit if you want the most upscale version of the car.
• LTZ: The V6-powered LTZ variant gives you the strongest performance in the lineup while keeping the same upscale equipment. It suits you if you want the most power and don’t mind paying more for it.

The LTZ models also bring the most advanced safety equipment, while many of those features are optional on lesser trims.

• Deal availability: 26.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 541 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.56% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 52.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $9,724, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2014 Chevrolet Impala's resale value?

The current average of $9,809 sits slightly below last year's $10,611.

That price movement suggests the market has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help if you buy now and plan to sell later. A softer current market can also mean your future resale value depends more on condition, mileage, and trim than on broad price momentum.

If you keep the car well maintained and avoid accident history, you’ll be in a better position when it’s time to trade or sell. Stronger equipment levels and desirable condition should help your listing stand out in a market where shoppers have plenty to compare.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

The 2014 Chevrolet Impala earns a five-star overall rating from NHTSA and a Good rating from IIHS in the moderate front overlap crash test.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

The safety story is strengthened by 10 airbags, 4-wheel antilock disc brakes, electronic stability control, and OnStar with automatic crash response and roadside assistance. LTZ models add forward-collision alert, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, a rear-view camera, blind-spot monitoring, rear parking sensors, and passive keyless entry, while intelligent cruise control with crash-imminent braking is available as an option.

Should I buy a 2014 Chevrolet Impala or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2014 if:

• 26.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 52.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.56% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It brings a reborn design, a premium-feeling cabin, and a genuinely impressive ride-and-handling package.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $10,396, the 2015 costs more than the current year's $9,809 average.
• It adds a bit more space and trunk room.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2014 is the smarter buy because it combines a lower average price with strong owner satisfaction and a well-regarded redesign. If you’re willing to spend more for a slightly roomier follow-up model, the 2015 is the secondary path to consider.
