How much does the 2014 BMW 4 Series cost?

Is the 2014 BMW 4 Series a good car?

Yes — it earns a 4.5/5 user rating and a 7.17/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Performance at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise the performance, sleek design, high-quality interior, driving experience, power, handling, and comfort. That lines up well with the overview’s focus on this car as a sporty daily driver that still aims to be practical, especially if you want a premium coupe that feels engaging without giving up everyday usability.

Good and great deals account for 35.0% of listings, so there is still some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2014 BMW 4 Series reliable?

Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a car that feels dependable in the ways that matter to enthusiasts: strong performance, a high-quality interior, and a driving experience people enjoy enough to keep recommending. The expert commentary also emphasizes that this is a car for buyers who truly enjoy the drive and can count on it to feel rewarding on a winding road.

The main long-term ownership risk for used buyers is that higher maintenance costs can make the car more expensive to keep over time.

What should I look for when buying a used 2014 BMW 4 Series?

At 50.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been modified, heavily optioned, or priced below the market average. Focus on overall condition, because the ownership experience depends heavily on whether the car has been maintained well and whether any prior damage was repaired properly.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The cabin is modern and well fitted, and the bucket seats are shaped for enthusiastic driving, but the interior cushioning may feel firm on longer trips. The base setup may leave you wanting more comfort if you spend a lot of time behind the wheel.
• Powertrain: The 428i uses a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline 4-cylinder with 240 horsepower and 255 pound-feet of torque, while the 435i uses a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline 6-cylinder with 300 horsepower and 300 pound-feet of torque. The 428i is the lighter, more fun-to-drive choice, while the 435i brings more power but also more nose weight.
• Safety package: The car includes front and side impact airbags, and the test model had a backup camera. More active safety tech costs extra, and the backup camera view was described as poor at night.
• Infotainment: The system uses iDrive, which is solid once learned, but the test model lacked navigation and streaming Bluetooth audio. It also did not have voice command for those features, and the USB connection was unresponsive to an iPhone.
• Fuel efficiency: The 428i is rated at 23 mpg city and 35 highway with rear-wheel drive, or 22 city and 33 highway with xDrive. The 435i returns 22 city and 32 highway.

Which 2014 BMW 4 Series trim should I buy?

The 2014 BMW 4 Series is offered in 2 trim levels: 428i and 435i.

Here's the short version:

• 428i: This is the best-value choice if you want the lighter, more playful version of the car. It delivers 240 horsepower, strong efficiency, and the balance that makes the 4 Series appealing as a sporty daily driver.
• 435i: Choose this if you want more straight-line power and are willing to trade some of the 428i’s lighter feel for a 300-horsepower turbocharged inline-6 experience.

The safety content notes that more active safety tech costs extra, and the test model’s backup camera had a weak nighttime view.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 BMW 4 Series?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some leverage if you stay patient.

• Deal availability: 35.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 571 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.75% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 50.4% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $12,091, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2014 BMW 4 Series's resale value?

The current average of $12,347 sits slightly below last year's $13,530.

That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable point if you plan to keep the car for a while. For a future seller, it also means resale value may depend more on condition, mileage, and equipment than on broad market momentum.

Because the model still has strong owner satisfaction, well-kept examples should continue to attract interest from shoppers who want a sporty premium coupe.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2014 BMW 4 Series safe?

The 2014 BMW 4 Series comes with front and side impact airbags, and the test model included a backup camera.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

The safety content also notes that more active safety tech costs extra, so you may need to shop carefully if you want a more complete driver-assistance setup. The backup camera was called out as a weak point because its nighttime visibility was poor.

Should I buy a 2014 BMW 4 Series or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2014 if:

• 35.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 50.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.75% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2014 stands out as a sporty daily driver with strong performance and a high-quality interior.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $13,737, the 2015 costs more than the current year's $12,347 average.
• It adds a more distinctive, longer, lower, wider design and a broader lineup feel.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2014 is the smarter buy because prices have softened and the car still delivers the core BMW coupe experience. If you care more about updated styling and are willing to pay more, the 2015 is the better path.
