How much does the 2014 BMW 3 Series cost?

Prices have softened 1.55% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,418 listings available, which suggests you have a solid amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2014 BMW 3 Series a good car?

Yes — the 2014 BMW 3 Series earns a 4.8/5 user rating and a 7.3/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Look and feel at 9/10.

Drivers consistently praise the fun driving experience, modern styling, and safety features. The review summary also points to comfort, fuel efficiency in the diesel model, heated seats, and a spacious interior.

For you, that means this is a strong fit if you want a refined sedan that still feels engaging behind the wheel and works well for everyday driving. 31.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so there are still worthwhile opportunities if you shop carefully.

Is the 2014 BMW 3 Series reliable?

Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The review summary points to a car that drivers generally trust for its fun, comfortable, and satisfying ownership experience, with several comments highlighting the diesel model’s fuel efficiency and the car’s overall appeal. The expert notes also emphasize BMW’s generous no-cost maintenance plan, which covers scheduled checkups and replacements for items like oil, wipers, brake discs, and pads.

That said, used buyers should still budget for age-related wear and verify maintenance history closely, since long-term ownership costs can rise if prior care was inconsistent.

What should I look for when buying a used 2014 BMW 3 Series?

At 54.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially on cars with higher mileage or visible cosmetic wear. Focus on signs of uneven panel gaps, tire wear, brake condition, and any evidence of deferred maintenance. If you’re comparing multiple listings, condition should matter as much as price.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: Base, Luxury, Sport and M Sport are the four distinct trim lines, and the Sport and M Sport trims add more aggressive body styling, larger wheels and stiffer suspensions. The base setup is the least equipped, so you should pay close attention to feature gaps if you want a more premium feel.
• Powertrain: BMW offers 4 engines and 3 transmissions, including 2.0-liter twin-turbo 4-cylinder engines in the 320i and 328i, a twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline 6-cylinder in the 335i, and a 2.0-liter twin-turbo diesel 4-cylinder in the 328d. The diesel is noted for an EPA-estimated 45-mpg-highway rating.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes adaptive brake lamps, automatic brake drying in wet weather, and BMW Assist eCall. Blind-spot detection, parking sensors and even a basic alarm system are not standard.
• Infotainment: The car uses BMW’s iDrive controller with a large color screen, quick-loading menus, Bluetooth streaming audio and a USB connector. BMW Apps is included, and the system can support options such as a head-up display, adaptive cruise control and a bird’s-eye-view camera setup.
• Fuel efficiency: The 328d promises an EPA-estimated 45-mpg-highway rating, while the tester averaged 17 mpg in mostly city driving.

Which 2014 BMW 3 Series trim should I buy?

The 2014 BMW 3 Series is offered in 4 trim levels: Base, Luxury, Sport and M Sport.

Here's the short version:

• Base: This is the entry point, so it makes sense if you want the 3 Series experience at the lowest starting point, but you should expect fewer of the appearance and chassis upgrades that make the car feel special.
• Luxury: Choose this if you want a more upscale presentation without moving all the way into the sportier trims.
• Sport: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds more aggressive body styling, larger wheels and stiffer suspensions while keeping the car’s core strengths intact.
• M Sport: Pick this if you want the most aggressive look and the most performance-focused setup among the listed trims.

BMW Assist eCall, adaptive brake lamps and automatic brake drying are standard, but blind-spot detection, parking sensors and a basic alarm are not.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 BMW 3 Series?

This looks like a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on the right car.

• Deal availability: 31.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,418 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 1.55% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 54.8% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $9,798, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2014 BMW 3 Series's resale value?

The current average of $10,040 sits slightly below last year's $10,198.

That tells you the market has softened a bit, which can help you as a buyer now but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. If you buy at the right price and keep the car in strong condition, you can reduce the impact of that decline. The model’s broad appeal and strong owner satisfaction still help support demand.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2014 BMW 3 Series safe?

The 2014 BMW 3 Series didn’t fare too well in small-overlap crash tests by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, and it still gains five overall stars on government crash tests.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes adaptive brake lamps, automatic brake drying in wet weather, and BMW Assist eCall, which can dial 911 after a crash. Blind-spot detection, parking sensors and a basic alarm system are not standard. The small-overlap result is the main caveat you should keep in mind when shopping used examples.

Should I buy a 2014 BMW 3 Series or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2014 if:

• 31.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 54.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 1.55% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2014 still delivers classic 3 Series handling and steering, even as newer rivals close the gap.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $10,222, the 2015 costs more than the current year's $10,040 average.
• It shifts to a sedan-only lineup with a more competitive, updated feel.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2014 is the smarter starting point because it combines a lower average price with strong owner satisfaction and plenty of listings. If you’re willing to spend more for a newer model-year update, the 2015 is the secondary path to consider.
