The MINI Cooper Clubman compact wagon receives only minor updates for 2010, including standard cruise control across the line and a new Hot Chocolate exterior color. The 2010 Cooper Clubman borrows heavily from the Cooper Base trim, delivering the same iconic exterior design, fuel-efficient engines, and sporty handling, although on a longer platform, resulting in additional interior space for passengers and cargo. MINI stretches the Clubman's wheelbase by 3.2 inches and its overall length by 9.4 inches, when compared to the Cooper Base, providing additional legroom and shoulder room for rear-seat passengers. In addition, the Clubman offers 9.18 cubic feet of storage space behind the rear seats, a 61-percent increase over the Cooper Base's 5.7 cubic feet. With the rear seats folded flat, cargo space expands to 32.8 cubic feet, as opposed to 24 cubic feet in the Cooper Base.

The Cooper Clubman's right-side, reverse-hinged third door, which the automaker calls a club door, provides easy access to the rear seats. In addition, rather than a hatchback, the Clubman comes equipped with split rear "barn" doors, with left- and right-hinged swinging doors giving owners access to the rear cargo area.

For 2010, the MINI Cooper Clubman comes in three trims, including the Clubman Base, the Clubman S, and the Clubman John Cooper Works. All trims display a wide bulldog stance, with the wheels pushed all the way to the corners to ensure a low center of gravity, good balance, and capable handling. In addition, all Clubman trims feature an ultra-rigid body designed to reduce flexing and ensure a quiet cabin.

Each of the Clubman's three trim levels uses a different version of the same 1.6-liter four-cylinder powerplant. The engine powering the Clubman Base generates 118 hp and 114 lb-ft of torque, and drives the vehicle from 0-60 in 8.9 seconds. It links to either a Getrag six-speed manual transmission, which comes standard, or an optional six-speed Aisin automatic. Fuel economy numbers check in at 28/36 mpg.

The Clubman S features a turbocharged version of the same engine, which boosts horsepower to 172 and torque to 177 lb-ft. The turbocharged powerplant pushes the Clubman S from 0-60 mph in 7 seconds, and links to the same manual transmission or the six-speed automatic with steering-wheel-mounted Agitronic paddle shifters. Fuel economy numbers for the turbocharged powerplant drop to 26/34 mpg. The Clubman S also has a sportier suspension than the Clubman Base, with stiffer shocks and springs.

The Clubman John Cooper Works trim comes equipped with a larger version of the S's Borg Warner turbocharger, as well as direct fuel injection and modified cylinders and exhaust tuning. As a result, the performance-tweaked four-cylinder engine develops 208 hp and 192 lb-ft of torque. The engine links to a six-speed manual transmission with a short-throw shifter, which is the only transmission available on this trim. The Clubman John Cooper Works jumps out from 0-60 in 6.5 seconds, and has a top speed of 147 mph. It also rides on a sport-tuned suspension, has an upgraded speedometer, and comes equipped with four-piston Brembo front brakes, which provide plenty of stopping power. MINI recommends premium fuel for all three versions of the four-cylinder engine.

Standard interior features for the Clubman Base include leatherette upholstery, a leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio and cruise controls, a start/stop button, remote keyless entry, a tilt/telescopic steering wheel, air conditioning, a climate-controlled glovebox, and an onboard computer with trip information and outside temperature displays. A six-speaker AM/FM audio system with a CD player, MP3 input jack, and automatic speed volume control also comes standard. The Clubman S adds front sport seats and aluminum-alloy foot pedals, while the Clubman John Cooper Works includes cloth rather than leatherette upholstery and stainless-steel foot pedals. A number of options, including a navigation system and a dual-pane panoramic sunroof, are available.

Beyond that, owners can customize their individual vehicles in a variety of ways. MINI offers three roof colors, 10 different body colors, nine upholstery choices, six different types of interior trim, and five color lines, as well as a variety of wheel options.

All trims come standard with a wide range of safety features, including Dynamic Stability Control and four-wheel antilock brakes with electronic brakeforce distribution. The Clubman John Cooper Works adds Dynamic Traction Control with electronic differential lock control. Six airbags, including front-seat-mounted side-impact and side-curtain airbags, also come standard. The Clubman Base rides on 15-inch alloy wheels, while the Clubman S receives 16-inch alloy wheels with an S-Winder design. The Clubman John Cooper Works rolls on 17-inch alloy wheels with a Challenge Spoke design.
