About 2008 Toyota FJ Cruiser
Overview
For 2008, the Toyota FJ Cruiser crossover SUV got some new standard features, including curtain airbags for both rows of seats and an anti-theft system. Otherwise, the FJ Cruiser has 3 trims and retains its 4.0-liter, 239-hp V6 powertrain. You'll have your pick between a five-speed automatic and a six-speed manual transmission.
Gas mileage averages out to 16 mpg in the city and 19 on the highway. Maximum towing capacity comes out to 5,000 lbs. With 4 doors and room for 5 passengers, the FJ Cruiser should have the capacity to handle a small family.
Overall, drivers like the FJ Cruiser's solid powertrain and retro styling. On the other hand, its towing capacity doesn't top the charts, and the unique style may turn some drivers off. In any event, 2008 marks another year of steady progress for an interesting new foreign crossover SUV.

Very reliable, comfortable on the highway (loud but acceptable given the design), iconic design with clever touches.

One of the most reliable vehicle’s Toyota has made. The durability and off road package is what stands out for me.

Performance: Couldn't ask for better acceleration for a 4300 lb box on wheels. It's got the same V-6 as the base 4Runner, but variable valve timing for smoother, more responsive power. Braking and handling are, again, good for its size and shape. Off-road performance is stellar- I've driven tons of Jeeps, a hand-full of Land Rovers, and one Hummer H3, and it will go places (and get out of places) none of the rest could. Beefier tires and 4x4 helps. Build Quality: It's a Toyota SUV. Appearance: judge for yourself. I like it, some of my friends won't be seen in it. It doesn't look like anything else on the road. Blind spots took a lot of getting used to. Interior is no more or less than anybody needs. No leather heated seats or sunroof, and a cramped back seat, but great head room and driver/front passenger comfort. Water-resistant washable floor and cloth seats. NO MAP LIGHTS!! WHAT??? Cost of ownership: On my best tank, i've gotten 22mpg. The worst has been 16 mpg. Premium fuel will get an extra mile or two per gallon for most drivers. I used synthetic oil at 15K miles, and it was $60 for me to do it in my driveway with a K&N filter. Dino oil changes with a Fram filter are free at the dealership for 3 years for me. This car is a blast to drive off-road, and a tolerable road vehicle as SUV's go.
