Used 2008 Toyota 4Runner for Sale near Rhode Island
The 2008 Toyota 4Runner is carried over from the 2007 model year, but all trims gain side and curtain airbags as safety features. Toyota's midsize SUV received a full overhaul for 2006, alongside the Tacoma pickup.
In the past twenty-five years, Toyota's 4Runner has evolved from a modest two-door pickup variation into a sleek and rugged-looking midsize SUV. The cars of the early- and mid-1980s simply resembled capped pickup trucks, but the 4Runner of the 21st century has its own unique style, set significantly apart from its closest relative, the Tacoma pickup.
This fourth-generation 4Runner has received owner and reviewer acclaim for its ideal blend of a luxurious interior environment and its rugged and capable exterior. The abundance of standard safety items is also a greatly appreciated feature, along with a strong 5,000-pound towing capacity, nimble handling for an SUV, and reasonable gas mileage despite its size and power. Shortcomings are often attributed to minor creature comforts like interior illumination, the lack of rear climate controls, and the awkward placement of some controls.
There are currently a dozen 4Runner variations, thanks to three trim levels, each composed of four variants. There are V6 and V8 engine options, each available with either two-wheel or four-wheel drive. Trims include SR5, Limited, and the Sport Edition. The SR5 is the entry point in the 4Runner lineup, and it includes automatic climate control, keyless entry, a CD player, trip computer, and power windows, locks, and mirrors. The Sport Edition adds power seats, 17-inch wheels, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. The top-shelf Limited trim gains running boards, dual climate control, 18-inch wheels, leather, and heated front seats. The options list is extensive for all models. It includes a DVD-based navigation system, Bluetooth, backup camera, rear seat DVD entertainment, and a premium JBL audio system with a 6-disc changer.
For powerplants, buyers may opt for the 4.0-liter V6, which generates 236 hp and 266 lb-feet of torque. The larger engine is a 4.7-liter V8 that produces 260 hp and 306 lb-ft of torque. Both engines utilize Toyota's VVTi variable-valve-timing system for improved fuel economy, and both are paired with a five-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission. Two-wheel-drive 4Runners with the V6 have an EPA rating of 18/22 mpg. V8 models fall to 17/20 mpg. The 4x4 4Runners equipped with the V6 are rated at 17/21 mpg, and the V8s at 16/19.

(38 reviews)Toyota 4Runner has been the best SUV for almost forever. While there are many other expensive SUVs of various brands. The 4Runner stays forever. It is really a great, rather affordable and strong, no frills SUV. Both the Japanese brands Toyota and Honda have been the main-stay of SUV ownership in USA and perhaps the world over for the longest time. One cannot go wrong with TOYOTA ever. Not that Honda is not good, it is just that Honda has been 2nd to Toyota forever. One always hears about Toyota Land cruiser etc. still being used after 50 years in some rather rough locations in Africa and Arabian Peninsula, but not so about any Honda! Whether it is Hilux in Asian lands or Land Cruiser or 4Runner or Fortuner in India, Toyota is not easily beatable. It can easily go on forever. This itself indicates its great value. The 6 Cylinder engine could definitely be more powerful but surely does gets the job done perfectly. Was never a fan of 8 Cylinder so no need to talk about it because a few more horsepower for lot more gas is definitely not worth talking about. As indicated above other SUVs come and go but Toyota Suvs : 4Runner stays. Its nearest and only worthwhile competitor has to be Honda Passport. Again, this is dance between two worthy opponents. The fact that both are Japanese brands, is of striking importance. The fact that, Japan a tiny country could come up with a century winner automobile brand while so many other much sophisticated countries could not, indicates the greatness of thought process involved in creating such a master piece. In their own way both these automobile brands are equals in their spheres of influence, Honda being slightly cheaper of the two. There are other more expensive and perhaps known brand models ( BMW, Lincoln, Nissan) and such, but looking at a balance of price power and affordability Toyota 4 Runner cannot be beaten ! Not much of a fan of the later boxy style 4 Runners but otherwise this SUV cannot be beat !
This car has been generally known to be reliable and dependable.
I am very pleased with choosing the 2008 Toyota 4Runner. It drives smoothly and has a great response to hills/mountains. While driving the seats are comfortable with plenty of leg room for tall people! The cargo space isnt lacking either! I would highly recommend this vehicle. I would compare this vehicle to my Jeep Wrangler, only the 4Runner rides smoother.
Met all of my expectations. I recommend the 4Runner.
Simply a great car! Averaging 23mpg on highway, this is the perfect match for the 4wheel driver enthusiast on a budget that I am.this car surely is build to last and go anywhere you like from the rocky road of Jasper NP to the hot sand of the Death Valley.
