The 2006 model year was one of transition for the Chrysler Sebring. It was the last year of a long first generation, and a all new Sebring would arrive for 2007. In 2006, Chrysler discontinued the Sebring coupe, and this was the last year in which the convertible would be offered. A performance-focused TSi sedan was also new this year.

All Sebring models are available with either of the two engines. The base power plant is a 2.4 liter DOHC inline four, which provides 150 horsepower and 160 pound-feet of torque. An optional 2.7 liter V-6 offers 200 horsepower and 190 pound-feet of torque. A four-speed automatic is the only transmission available with either engine. Fuel economy is 22/30 mpg for the four cylinder engine, and 21/28 mpg for the V-6.

The Sebring convertible and sedan evolved from the previous Chrysler Cirrus, while the now-discontinued coupe was largely based on the Mitsubishi Eclipse. Since the Sebring became an exclusive make for Chrysler in 2001, many different trim variations have come and gone.

For 2006, there are eight Sebring models available. Both the sedan and convertible are offered in Base, Limited, and Touring trims. The GTC trim is exclusive to the convertible, while the new TSi style is applied only to the sedan. The Base and Touring trims are similarly equipped, complete with power windows and door locks, cruise control, a CD audio system and air conditioning. The Limited gets a power driver's seat, fog lamps, a trip computer, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shifter. On the Limited Convertible, a premium Infinity sound system is also included. The TSi is the top-of-the-line sedan, adding leather and wood trim, 17-inch wheels, and a few additional performance and appearance enhancements. The GTC's suspension is tuned a bit stiffer than the other convertible models.
