Overview

Not sure what Switzerland has to do with reliable full-size luxury sedans, but the name Lucerne does flow smoothly over the tongue and evokes the same syllabic and phonetic tones of the old Buick LeSabre, the extremely popular luxury sedan that the new Buick Lucerne replaced this year. With a longer wheelbase, and sleeker, more flowing exterior lines, the 2006 Lucerne tries to reinvent Buick in a more youthful light.
Four trims are available for the 2006 Lucerne. Base CX comes with the old Buick 3.8-liter, 197-hp V6, but it is well loaded with curise control, OnStar, power seats, ABS brakes, six airbags, and a trip computer. The CXL is available with either the 3.8 V6 or a much more aggressive 4.5-liter, 275-hp V8. This engine is also offered in the sporty CXS trim, and it is the first time (since the '90s) that a V8 is offered in any Buick. The CXS has a stiffer suspension, bigger anti-sway bars, 18-inch tires, and is the first Buick to offer a combination of Magnasteer electric steering and Stabilitrak for premier handling and maneuverability.
The full-size 2006 Lucerne seats five, with plenty of legroom in the back. The trunk was actually made smaller than the previous LeSabre to add more rear legroom. Six can fit with an optional front bench. A rear armrest doubles as a trunk pass-through for oversize objects. Lots of extras, such as remote start, parking assist, and a sunroof add to the overall luxury feel.
It's hard to find anything bad to say about the Lucerne. Its inaugural year yields praise from drivers about its quiet ride (thanks to QuietTuning), luxurious interior, European styling, and lots of cabin space. Gas mileage fares well too. Some bemoan that it has less standard features than the old LeSabre. Steering is a bit light and the suspension can feel soft and airy.

This car is a drean on the road with its V8 engine and smooth ride. I have put many many miles on some long road trips and cannot say that I have ever been more comfortable in any other vehicle.

I love this car, it has great acceleration but not a sports car by any means. The build quality is superior to other models in its class. It has a smooth yet controlled ride that is extremely quiet. It also has some really cool features such as air conditioned seats. It has had very few problems thus far.

The pillars on the windshield are large and make it difficult to see things that are in the blindspot. The sunroof mechanism failed and had to be replaced, would have cost me 1000 bucks but because the car had not reached its Km warranty GM paid for the cost of parts.
