Overview

Mazda offered its popular MX-5 Miata roadster in two versions for 2004. Both the Base and LS versions were powered by a 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine that produced 142 horsepower. A five-speed manual transmission was standard for both models, while a four-speed automatic was optional. In addition, in mid-year Mazda introduced the high-performance MAZDASPEED MX-5 Miata roadster, which received a turbocharged and intercooled 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine that pumped out 178 horsepower. The MAZDASPEED Miata also came with beefed-up springs and dampers, a modified double-wishbone suspension, and rack-and-pinion steering. Standard features for the Base Miata included air conditioning, power windows, dual airbags, power exterior mirrors, and a CD player, as well as a convertible top. The LS version added leather seats, cruise control, and a premium audio system, among other features, while the MAZDASPEED Miata came with an upscale package that included black leather-trimmed upholstery, a black vinyl convertible top, 17-inch alloy wheels, and a Bose six-speaker audio system with CD. Although drivers thought that the Miata's interior could be a bit cramped, that the ride could be a bit rough, and that the vehicle overall was a bit underpowered, they also felt the Miata had responsive handling, a smooth shifter, great styling, and overall was fun to drive.

Awesome car to drive. Great gas mileage and very reliable! Nothing better than cruising in this car with the top down on a warm sunny day. It is a very quick car and handles corners very well. It is a great car.

This is what a sports car should be... as well as a daily driver. It’s fun and reasonably economical. It’s not a pickup truck or a soccer mom van. Don’t get it if you’re physically encumbered. If you just want a dependable zip-arounder, you found it!!
