Mazda had high hopes for its Millennia luxury sedan when the vehicle was launched in 1998. But despite good reviews from critics and mostly positive comments from the drivers who actually bought the car, it never really caught on with the mass car-buying public. So 2002 would be its final year.
That's unfortunate, because overall the Millennia offered a lot for the money. The Base model was powered by a 170-horsepower 2.5-liter V6, which was linked to a four-speed automatic transmission. Standard features included air conditioning, power windows, power door locks, power seats in the front, a tilt steering wheel with a memory feature, cruise control, automatic climate control, dual airbags, and a power sunroof.
Stepping up a notch, the Millennia S version received a supercharged 2.3-liter V6, which pushed horsepower up to 210. It was equipped with an upgraded list of standard features that included a premium audio system and traction control.
In addition, a Special Edition Millennia was available for 2002. Available only in black, it came with a Titanium package that included a special center console, two-tone ivory and black interior, and 17-inch wheels with titanium finish.
Overall, drivers liked the Millennia's styling, handling, comfort, safety features, and build quality, though some noted that the back seat seemed a bit cramped. In addition, some drivers felt the car was a bit underpowered when compared to competitors' vehicles. Finally, drivers liked the Millennia for its affordability factor, since the automaker had discounted the luxury car's price for the last few years of production. But in the end, it wasn't enough to save the car.

(7 reviews)This car has been trouble free since the day it was new - that is 12 years plus - with nothing but scheduled maintenance and the usual tires/brakes/battery/etc. Best car I have ever owned. Too bad that that this was the last year that Mazda made the Millenia - I would have liked to see what this model would have evolved to.
The Mill Is a One of a Kind Mazda!!!She carries buety that was advance before its time. Fun to drive and looks like a newer model car. The engine is tough to work in but all in all it's well worth it
Performance -- The braking feels sturdy and I like the handling feels confident. While driving the vehicle feels like it should have a more powerful engine. Build Quality -- Overall I like the build quality. There are certain issues that it seems like everybody has had. Such as the timing belt issue but in general Millenia is a very reliable car and does not take any more work than any average car. I don't like having to replace the secondary lights. The little round bulb in the headlight assembly is hard to find and changing the fog lights is a pain. But in general... excellent car.
How do I like this car? If they still made it, I would buy another. However, I will look for one with the lowest mileage I can find and maintenance history when I replace this. It might be a while though, it only has 137,000 miles at present. I will give this one to my granddaughter next year when she becomes a Senior in High School as a graduation present.
Great car. Parts are expensive, but I still like it. Mazda dealers are likely to give you the run around and probably wont find the problem, but if u are mechanically inclined there are very helpful Mazda forums with very resourceful people.
