The Mazda MPV went upscale in 1991, offering a Luxury Package upgrade that included leather seats, two-tone green and silver paint, and alloy wheels borrowed from the Mazda 929 sedan. It joined the base-level MPV, which was available in both two-wheel and four-wheel drive versions.
The two-wheel-drive MPV came with a 121-horsepower, 2.6-liter four-cylinder engine, while the four-wheel-drive model was equipped with a 150-horsepower, 3.0-liter V6. A five-speed manual transmission was standard on the two-wheel-drive models, while a four-speed automatic was standard on the four-wheel-drive version.
Standard features for the MPV included bucket seats, power brakes, power steering, a tilt steering wheel, power exterior mirrors, and rear-wheel anti-lock brakes. Options included air conditioning, power windows, and cruise control.
While some drivers noted minor problems with the MPV, such as rear seats that were difficult to remove, most noted that overall the MPV was comfortable, reliable, and handled well. In fact, current drivers noted that their early-'90s MPVs are still running fine.

(5 reviews)I liked the level of power for a V6, handling and traction in heavy snow - even without snow tires. The cabin space arrangements are ideal and a great sound system with upgraded speakers is very pleasant. Based on my experience, there is a very low cost of parts and maintenance for this vehicle.
accelerations are good if I compare to other minivans. But it takes a lot of gaz. Its a tough car, mine had over 300 000 km and still work well. Good car for demolition derbies! Don't take it all wheel drive.
When it runs it runs great. Bought it cheap drove to the coast took it to stave and had problems since. I love the side door and the removable seat. Makes a not bad bed. Good spot for new baby too.
i thought it was an ok car. it died on me, when the tranny blew. supposedly, the person i got it from had had it serviced or something like that, and it was no longer covered..... it got me from point a to point b, and wasn't too bad on gas mileage. it held the family, which was cool. much rather'd have a little car, though. loved the FWD of it.
once you get all the oil leaks fixed they are great bought mine for 600.00
