The 1989 Jeep Wrangler keeps to the previous year tradition of having two engines available: a 4.2 liter 6 cylinder and a 2.5 liter I4. Also like the previous year models, the 1989 Jeep Wrangler has two available transmissions, a 3 speed automatic and a 5 speed manual. Two doors and four wheel drive complete the SUV and create the stereotype for the fun, everyday SUV. Gas mileage obviously isn't great (this is an SUV, after all) but 18/20 isn't terrible. Comfort is a bit sparse in this SUV that can technically house 5 (though I wouldn't suggest more than 3 for the convenience of whoever is in the back seat). Air conditioning is optional, as is a cassette player. But don't worry, the 1989 Jeep Wrangler has something better than a sunroof; it's got a removable soft top available, which isn't too difficult to take off and put on. Owners of the 1989 Jeep Wrangler typically had good things to say, especially since most of the posts online are about the SUV after it was 10 years old. Of course some mechanical problems exist, but many of them can agree on one thing. There is little better than a summer day, cruising down the road in a 1989 Jeep Wrangler with the top down and the radio blaring. The 1989 Jeep Wrangler was built for fun, and 18 years later, it still is.

My jeep has the original 4.2L engine in it. It was a 5spd but we changed it to an auto for my kids to drive. Overall my jeep is good on gas and looks good too. It still has the original decals on it from the factory. We put a 4" suspension lift in it and has 32" BFG mud terrian tires.

Bought the car on a whim, brand new. What a mistake that was! Cool appearance did not make up for an uncomfortable ride, bumpy and noisy. The sixsylinder engine was powerful enough, but the car was lousy put together. Once when offroad, I hit a bump a little hard and the engine actually displaced itself , causing nasty internal damage.....The car never really recovered after that, even though Jeep rebuilt the engine- no questions asked.

my second jeep and this one is standard!! fixing it up from the ground up woot! the body is rusted out a bit but that's expected whenever it comes to a jeep this old. however with a little time and the right connections you can easily fix it to better then new condition

I bought it as a fixer upper toy and have enjoyed every minute of it. I love the way it looks now and the feeling of freedom driving it with the top down/off. I wish it had a litle more power and got better gas mileage but I wouldn't take double what I gave for it.

This is the funnest vehicle to own in my opinion. A must have for the outdoorsy type! I love taking the Jeep camping, off roading, or even just for a joy ride. I enjoy working on mechanical work nearly as much as I enjoy the ride.
