Kids everywhere were playing computer games, and the 1981 Impala made it possible for adults to join in the fun. New for the 1981 Impala was a Computer Command Control system designed to improve driving, including the smoothness of shift between the new four-speed automatic transmission.
The base engine was a 229-ci V6 rated at 110 horsepower, and an optional 305-ci V8 rated at 150 horsepower was available.
If you are in the market for one of these vehicles today, there was a special Police Package available. These had great acceleration, and are relatively easy to restore.

It has a great nostalgia factor, by that I mean that it feels old cause everything doesn't work. On the up-side the drivetrain is practically bullet proof and could possibly go another 30 years if the body etc holds out. Plus it sounds kinda cool. These cars can be had for a pretty cheap price and are becoming quite popular as fixer-uppers. I get offers on mine regularly!

last of the nice mid size cars...good square design.good chrome bumpers,solid good car except the sides no good for being T-Boned. And for a small 8 it had power like a reg 8.THE jack was good but there was only a donut tire as this was year that crap started.
