1979 was a good year for the Chevy Camaro. The uncharacteristically un-muscle car Type LT was dropped, and the Berlinetta made its debut. The dashboard was replaced and provided more modern conveniences, including controls for an electric rear window defrost and well-designed AC vents.
Sales hit a new high with 282,582 sold, including 84,877 Z28's. Only 21,913 consumers opted for the base engine, a 250-ci L6 rated at 350 horsepower (90 in California). Most went with the V8's, rated up to 175 horsepower for the Z28.the 1979 chevy camaro would be known as it nick name the hugger you could make turn up to 55 mph, with it 373 posi rearend,

(76 reviews)A very purpose built car. Not designed as a grocery getter, it's designed to go fast and look good doing it. My particular example has unbelievable power thanks to a high performance 383 stroker under the hood. Accelerates in an instant. Handling is above average for a car of the time period. Brakes are sufficient. These cars do have some squeaks/rattles/interior noise, but its all part of the charm of a muscle car. Appearance is spot on for a late 70's sports/muscle car. Maintenance costs on a car of this age all have to do with how it was cared for the past 30 years. The gas mileage of a carbureted V8 definitely is no high point. But you get what you expect to get with this type of vehicle. As far as fun factor goes, I have yet to experience anything better. T- tops definitely add to the experience.
Best year camaro ever made. Suspension was great stock and still is. Performance suffered due to the oil crisis in the late 70s, but the motors respond very well to performance parts. I love mine, and I will never sell it.
What a car. I had a standard 350 with a 3 speed. What a lovely car. Try to find one now. Leather interior. 350 V8. What a car. Spares are easy to get too. RWD and felt like it had a huge amount of power.
I bought the car myself at 17 and its been great ever since, acceleration is decently quick with the 4 spd trans. The brake could use an upgrade, when moving at speeds around 65mph it feels like its not gonna stop. Funnest thing ive ever driven, even better than the 2012 camaro in my opinion.
Big Block 454 ..... 1979 camaro rebuit with my dad when i was 5 back in 1980 .. Fun to drive ,allways get look at, fast. Allways a fun car to drive. Its loud and never gets turned down.. this car domanates
