General Motors has one of the largest product lines of any automaker in the United States and offers certified pre-owned (CPO) vehicles at most of its branded dealerships.

In order to become a CPO vehicle, GM vehicles must meet the following requirements:

  • Be built within the last five model years
  • Have less than 75,000 miles on the odometer
  • Have no unresolved recalls
  • Pass a 172-point vehicle inspection and reconditioning process

Owners of GMC, Buick, or Chevrolet CPO vehicles enjoy an extended bumper-to-bumper warranty and powertrain warranty, complimentary transportation to and from service visits, roadside assistance, and more. All vehicles in the program are required to come with a history report and must not have been in a major accident. GM also offers a points program, through which CPO buyers can earn rewards like free OnStar or SiriusXM subscriptions or vehicle service visits.

Warranties

All of GM's CPO vehicles are covered by both a bumper-to-bumper and a limited powertrain warranty.

Bumper-To-Bumper Warranty
GMC, Buick, and Chevrolet CPO vehicles receive a 12-month, 12,000-mile comprehensive warranty that covers nearly every part of the vehicle with a $0 deductible. Some items and instances are not covered, such as:

  • Tires
  • Damage due to misuse or neglect
  • Damage from collisions, fire, or theft
  • Modifications or alterations

Limited Powertrain Warranty
Every GM CPO vehicle is covered by a 6-year, 100,000-mile limited powertrain warranty. Covered components include:

  • Internal engine parts
  • Transmission/transaxle/transfer case
  • Drive systems

Modified, damaged, or misused parts will not be covered under the powertrain warranty. GM provides services for its CPO vehicles under the powertrain warranty with a $0 deductible, and coverage is transferable with no additional charges.

Perks

Roadside assistance
All Buick, GMC, and Chevy CPO vehicles come with 24-hour roadside assistance provided by Allstate. Coverage includes flat-tire service, fuel delivery, and towing. The service is available for a period of 6 years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first.

Scheduled maintenance
The GM Certified program includes two scheduled maintenance visits within the first 2 years or 24,000 miles of vehicle ownership. Services include oil and oil filter changes, tire rotations, and multi-point inspections. If you sell the vehicle within that 2-year period, the scheduled maintenance visits transfer along with any remaining warranty.

Courtesy Transportation
If your vehicle needs repairs, you’ll be eligible to receive alternate transportation or reimbursement of transportation costs related to the service visit. The benefit is available free of charge for the duration of the warranty coverage period.

Trial Subscriptions
Certified preowned vehicles from General Motors come with a 3-month trial subscription to both OnStar and SiriusXM Radio. OnStar is a connected service for GM’s vehicles that includes automatic crash response, emergency services, and the ability to summon roadside assistance. The service also comes with the ability to remote start, lock, and unlock the vehicle from a mobile phone and can perform basic vehicle diagnostics. There are different tiers of OnStar services depending on the vehicle’s model year, so not all services are available for all models.

Vehicle Exchange Program
If a "new" CPO vehicle doesn’t suit your needs, GM will allow you to exchange it for one that does. Within 3 days or 150 miles, you can swap your vehicle for a different one, but you’ll have to account for any differences in price.
