by Jill Ciminillo

The 2027 Nissan Z is among the last of a dying breed of affordable two-seat sports cars, as its one true competitor in the U.S., the Toyota GR Supra, is being discontinued after the 2026 model year. The Z made its comeback for the 2023 model year, and as revealed at the 2026 Tokyo Auto Show, it gets a refresh for 2027. It will be available in Sport, Performance, and NISMO trims.

2027 Nissan Z Preview - summary

What’s New for the 2027 Nissan Z

The biggest change for the 2027 Nissan Z is the front-end design. In addition to a new grille, the Nissan emblem on the nose has been replaced with a new Z badge, and there is also a new Unryu green paint and redesigned 19-inch wheels. Enthusiasts will rejoice to hear that the NISMO trim will offer a manual transmission option.

Design

The retro exterior design of the 2027 Nissan Z harks back to the original Datsun 240Z with its long hoodlines and short-deck styling. The standard wheels are 18 inches and 19-inch wheels are available. Though each trim has different styling cues, especially the NISMO, there are no appearance packages per se. The one exterior option on most models is two-tone paint with a black roof.

Powertrain

For 2027, the Nissan Z keeps its twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 and rear-wheel-drive (RWD) drivetrain. It delivers 400 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque in most models, but the NISMO trim gets a boost to 420 hp and 384 lb-ft of torque. A six-speed manual transmission and a nine-speed automatic are available on all trims. Non-NISMO models get 18 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway, while NISMO models get 17 mpg and 24 mpg respectively. Premium fuel is recommended for all trims.

2027 Nissan Z Preview - interior

Interior

Cloth seats are standard on the Sport trim, but opting for the Performance trim upgrades the upholstery to leather and synthetic suede, while the NISMO trim comes with leather and Alcantara accents. There is no sunroof, and given that it's a two-seater sports car, there's little in the way of cargo space. Cargo volume is 6.9 cubic feet, which is just enough for two suitcases.

Technology

The base Sport trim of the 2027 Nissan Z comes with an 8-inch infotainment screen, a 12.3-inch digital cluster, wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a six-speaker audio system. Performance and NISMO trims include more tech features, such as a 9-inch infotainment screen, wireless CarPlay and Android Auto, an eight-speaker Bose premium audio system, navigation, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and Nissan’s connected services.

Safety

Standard safety features include automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, blind-spot monitors, lane-departure warning, forward-collision warning, rear cross-traffic alert, and adaptive cruise control. The Z only comes with a rear-view camera, and unlike other Nissan models, there is no surround-view camera system. Neither the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) nor the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) had crash-tested this generation Nissan Z at the time of writing.

Pricing and Release Date

The 2027 Nissan Z is expected to be available at the end of 2026. Though pricing hadn’t been released at the time of writing, we don’t expect a dramatic year-over-year increase. For reference, the 2026 Z Sport starts at $44,215 and the NISMO starts at $66,995. We anticipate the 2027 Z will be priced between $46,000 and $68,000.
