Once the darlings of suburban American families, minivans have more recently lost favor as the people-mover of choice and have fallen well behind crossovers and SUVs in sales. But minivans like the 2026 Toyota Sienna offer families space, comfort, utility, and efficiency in equal measure.

2026 Toyota Sienna Preview - summary

What’s New for the 2026 Toyota Sienna

For 2026, Toyota has added a number of standard features to the Sienna lineup. The base LE gains the most, adding an upgraded eight-speaker audio system, a power rear liftgate, rear window shades, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a HomeLink universal transceiver, a windshield de-icer, and black roof rails. The XLE also gets black roof rails as standard, and both the XLE and XSE gain upgraded JBL Premium Audio — optional on the XLE and standard on the XSE, which also adds a subwoofer. There are also new color options this year. Heavy Metal, a deep gray hue, is available across LE, XLE, XSE, Limited, and Platinum trims for an extra $475, while the Sienna Woodland adds Ice Cap, a solid white, along with a new black Woodland badge on the rear liftgate.

Design

The Toyota Sienna proves that minivans don’t have to be slab-sided boxes on wheels. An expressive front face is dominated by a large lower grille, while large, angular lighting clusters flank a prominent Toyota badge on the nose. Sienna XSE minivans feature a sportier look with a unique mesh grille treatment and stylish wheels (18-inch on all-wheel-drive (AWD) models or 20-inch on front-wheel-drive (FWD) models). The 2026 Sienna Woodland Edition has its own distinct style, with nearly half an inch more ground clearance than other Sienna minivans, plus darkened exterior trim and black badging. At the top of the Sienna range are the Limited and Platinum models, which share a high-end exterior look but differ in wheel size and option content.

Powertrain

All 2026 Toyota Sienna models feature a hybrid powertrain with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine and an electric motor that delivers 245 combined horsepower through a continuously variable transmission (CVT) to the front or all four wheels. Sienna vans equipped with AWD get a separate electric motor that powers the rear wheels, and electronic controls vary how much power is sent to either the front or rear wheels to improve traction and enhance cornering agility.

Sienna buyers who opt for AWD don’t lose much in efficiency. The EPA estimates that standard FWD Sienna models will return 36 mpg in the city and on the highway. AWD Siennas get ratings of 35 mpg city, 36 mpg highway, and 35 mpg combined.

Interior

It’s under the skin where minivans like the 2026 Toyota Sienna truly shine. The interior of the Sienna is large, comfortable, and full of helpful touches to make a family’s daily routine as seamless as possible. There are 18 cupholders in the Sienna, several of which are part of the large center console accessible to front- and second-row passengers. That second row, although not as easily removable as some rivals, can slide fore and aft, helping maintain roominess for third-row occupants and bulky objects alike. Buyers who opt for Limited or Platinum trim levels will benefit from a second row that reclines and includes comfortable footrests, while the Platinum’s built-in vacuum cleaner and FridgeBox refrigerator are helpful additions.

Technology

Most 2026 Sienna vans feature a 12.3-inch Toyota Audio Multimedia infotainment system, but base LE models have a much smaller and less desirable eight-inch system. Fortunately, all Sienna vans feature wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and offer wireless smartphone charging. LE and XLE models feature a seven-inch Multi-Information Display between traditional gauges ahead of the driver. XSE, Woodland Edition, Limited, and Platinum Sienna vans benefit from a customizable 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster.

Wi-Fi Connect technology is available in the Sienna (with a one-month trial subscription), which allows up to five devices to get online with 4G connectivity. Toyota’s Intelligent Assistant is also standard and allows occupants to interact with the infotainment system with simple phrases like “Hey, Toyota.”

Safety

All 2026 Sienna minivans come standard with Toyota Safety Sense 2.0, an active safety group that packages a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection (automatic emergency braking), full-speed adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning with steering assist, lane-tracing assist (lane centering), and road-sign assist. Toyota also packages all Sienna models with a five-year trial subscription to Toyota Safety Connect, which includes emergency and enhanced roadside assistance, automatic collision notification, and stolen-vehicle locator.

In Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) tests, the 2026 Sienna received a Good rating in the small overlap front and updated side crash tests, but only a marginal rating in the updated moderate overlap front test. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) awarded the Sienna its maximum five-star overall safety rating.
