There are a lot of players in the compact luxury segment, but there are few that offer hybrids or plug-in hybrids. So, while the 2026 Lexus NX Hybrid generally competes with the BMW X1, the Mercedes-Benz GLA, and the Acura RDX, if you’re looking specifically for a hybrid powertrain, you have to go further afield. The Audi Q5, the Mercedes-Benz GLC, and the Volvo XC60 all have plug-in hybrid (PHEV) options. Only the XC60 also offers a straight hybrid. The 2026 Lexus NX 350h hybrid and 450h+ PHEV are part of the vehicle’s second generation, and they have four trims: Standard, Premium, Luxury, and F Sport Handling.

What’s New for the 2026 Lexus NX Hybrid
Last redesigned in 2022, the 2026 Lexus NX 350h and 450h+ receive minor updates but are largely carryover models. The 350h is now available with front-wheel drive (FWD), and the F Sport Handling trim has been added to the hybrid lineup. The 450h+ adds the Premium trim, and each PHEV model now comes with dual voltage changing cables, enabling both level 1 and level 2 charging. Additionally, Infrared is a new color for 2026, and Ultra White is now available across the entire lineup.
Design
With its 2022 redesign, the Lexus NX Hybrid got a sharper, more modern exterior design, featuring the pinched-nose spindle grille framed by the signature L-shaped daytime running lights (DRLs). Standard wheels are 18 inches, but 20-inch wheels are available starting at the Premium trim. While there aren’t any appearance packages on the NX hybrid, it’s worth noting the top F Sport Handling trim does include blacked-out exterior accents and wheels.
Powertrain
For 2026, the Lexus NX 350h gets improvements in both power and fuel economy. This hybrid is equipped with a 240-horsepower 2.5-liter, four cylinder gasoline engine and either one or two electric motors depending on if it has front- or all-wheel drive (AWD). FWD models have an EPA-estimated combined fuel economy of 40 mpg, and the AWD model is rated at 39 mpg. As a PHEV, the NX 450h+ is equipped with a high-capacity lithium-ion battery and thus is able to deliver up to 37 miles of all-electric range. It can be fully charged in three hours using a 240-volt outlet. Though both the NX 350h and 450h+ share the same gas engine, the 450h+ is AWD-only and has a total system output of 304 hp. It gets an EPA-estimated combined 84 MPGe (miles per gallon of gasoline combined) rating. Both hybrids can tow up to 2,000 pounds when properly equipped.

Interior
The 2026 Lexus NX hybrid and PHEV are five-passenger compact luxury SUVs with a max cargo volume of 46.9 cubic feet with the second row folded flat. Behind the second row, you’ll see 22.7 cubic feet of cargo space. These are the same numbers you’ll see for the non-hybrid NX. The interiors of the 2026 Lexus NX 350h and 450h+ have a driver-focused cockpit that puts all essential controls within easy reach. Leatherette upholstery is standard, with tan, black, and burgundy color options at a base level. Leather is standard on the Luxury trim. A panoramic glass moonroof is available on all trims.
Technology
The 2026 Lexus NX hybrids come with a standard 9.8-inch touchscreen display and Lexus’s new infotainment system. This includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as well as the Lexus intelligent assistant and navigation-the latter two items being subscription-based features. A 14-inch screen becomes standard at the Luxury trim. There are six standard USB ports, and the ability to use your phone as a key is available with an active Remote Connect subscription. Additional optional tech features include a wireless phone charger, ambient lighting, a rear camera mirror, a head-up display, parallel and perpendicular park assist, and a 360-degree camera display.
Safety
One of the biggest selling points for the 2026 Lexus NX hybrid and PHEV is all the standard safety features you get at a base level. The Lexus Safety System+ 3.0 is standard on all trims and includes automatic high beams, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, full-speed adaptive cruise control, lane-trace assist, road-sign assist, lane-departure alert with steering assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and proactive driving assist. Available safety features include front cross-traffic alert and lane-change assist. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has never crash-tested the NX 350h, but the NX 450h+ received a Top Safety Pick designation for the 2025 model year. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) hasn’t crash-tested any version of the current-generation NX.
