Midsize trucks are a great compromise for many buyers, as they offer much of the workhorse capabilities of their larger full-size counterparts without the full-size price or maneuverability headaches. The GMC Canyon is one of two trucks General Motors offers in the segment, and it features a powerful turbocharged engine, capable off-road configurations, and luxurious top trims.

What’s New for the 2026 GMC Canyon
The 2026 GMC Canyon gained a few updates, including available black badges, a new Nightfall Essential Package for some trims, an available factory lift kit for the AT4X model, a new paint color, and updated wheel options.
Design
The Canyon borrows styling elements from the larger, more expensive Silverado, especially in the front end, where it has a similar upright grille and prominent LED daytime running lights (DRLs). GMC offers a range of trims, which brings several wheel options, and the rugged AT4X model features a lift kit with beefy all-terrain tires.
Powertrain
GMC only offers one powertrain option for the Canyon, but it’s a strong one. The turbocharged 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine produces 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque, which reaches the rear or all four wheels (RWD or 4WD) through an eight-speed automatic transmission. While the truck lost its diesel option a few years back, the current turbo-four delivers strong torque and horsepower numbers, and GMC equips a range of trailering tech that makes towing much less stressful.

Interior
The 2026 Canyon is only available in a crew cab format with five seats. Cloth upholstery comes standard, but higher trims step up to synthetic or genuine leather. Heated and ventilated front seats, memory settings, and a heated steering wheel are available. While the front seats are wide and spacious, the back seats are extremely short on legroom, limiting its ability to accommodate adults.
Technology
The Canyon comes standard with an 11-inch digital gauge cluster and an 11.3-inch touchscreen. Other default tech features include wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth, SiriusXM radio, HD radio, USB ports, a Wi-Fi hotspot, voice commands, and six speakers. GMC offers Bose stereo upgrades, wireless charging, dual-zone automatic climate controls, and additional USB ports. The Canyon’s infotainment system is responsive and easy to use, and the interface looks great on the large, high-resolution display.
Safety
The 2026 Canyon has not yet been tested by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Standard driver-assist features include automatic emergency braking, forward-collision warning, lane-keep assist, lane-departure warning, automatic high beams, a rearview camera, pedestrian and cyclist detection, and GM's Teen Driver mode. Higher trims add blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, parking sensors, adaptive cruise control, a head-up display, and a safety alert seat.

Pricing and Release Date
As of the time of this writing, GMC hasn’t priced the 2026 Canyon, but expect a slight bump over the 2025 model’s prices. They started at $40,590 and extended past $54,000 with options.
