The Corolla has been one of Toyota’s most important models for decades, and the hatchback variant brings the characteristics that made the car popular in a sportier body style. It offers the same powertrains, safety equipment, and tech features, but its back seat isn’t as accommodating as its sedan counterpart.

What’s New for the 2025 Toyota Corolla Hatchback
The Corolla Hatchback didn’t receive a substantive update for the 2025 model year. The car recently picked up Toyota’s newest infotainment system, a much-needed improvement that made it easier to use, more intuitive, and far better looking.
Design
The Corolla Hatchback is nearly identical to the sedan in the front, but the rear features a useful hatch shape and a more aggressive, sportier look. The Nightshade trim has bronze wheels, while the XSE’s black alloys combine with dark exterior trim pieces for a more sinister look.
Powertrain
Like the Corolla sedan, the Hatchback comes with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine making 169 horsepower and 151 pound-feet of torque. It’s paired with a continuously variable transmission and front-wheel drive. The car does not offer a thrilling driving experience, but it’s perfectly suitable for in-town commuting and highway drives. Fuel economy is solid, at up to 41 mpg on the highway in its most efficient configuration. The car also offers a reasonably smooth ride quality and responsive steering.

Interior
The five-seat Corolla comes standard with cloth upholstery and spacious front seats. Adults won’t be as comfy in the back seat and may find a lack of headroom. Heated front seats and a heated steering wheel are available. The hatchback also offers 17.8 cubic feet of space behind the rear seats, which expands to 23 cubic feet with the back seat folded flat.
Technology
Toyota equips an 8-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard, along with a 4.2-inch gauge cluster display. A 10.5-inch touchscreen and a 7-inch digital gauge cluster are available, along with a JBL audio system, wireless charging, and a smart key system with push-button start. Toyota’s latest infotainment system is much more usable and intuitive than previous versions, and it runs well on both available display screens. It can be a little slow to respond at times, but the system is light years ahead of earlier versions.
Safety
The 2025 Corolla Hatchback earned a Top Safety Pick award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, but testing isn’t complete for the 2025 calendar year yet, which could lead to another award. Standard safety tech includes forward collision warnings, pedestrian and cyclist detection, adaptive cruise control, a rearview camera, automatic high beams, traffic-sign recognition, rear seat alerts, lane-departure alerts, and more. Available driver-assist tech includes blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alerts.

Pricing and Release Date
As of the time of this writing, the base Toyota Hatchback SE costs $24,915. The midrange Nightshade trim starts at $25,915, and the top XSE model costs $28,215. All prices include the mandatory $1,135 destination fee. Toyota doesn’t offer many add-on options, making the Corolla Hatchback a good choice for people who don’t want to spend time and money selecting added-cost features.
