Consider the Nissan Ariya the Leaf’s sleeker and more sophisticated sibling. This electric crossover competes with vehicles like the Hyundai Ioniq 5, Ford Mustang Mach-E, and Kia EV6.

What’s New for the 2025 Nissan Ariya
The Nissan Ariya electric crossover glides into its third year with few changes. Nissan pared down the overly-complicated trim lineup, shedding three redundant configurations for a better curated (but still potentially too confusing) six trims. The Ariya also now features standard wireless smartphone charging across the lineup, a small change that helps make it more competitive with tech-heavy rivals.
Design
Nissan’s EV design has come a long way since the ugly-duckling Leaf. The Ariya has the profile of a small crossover, though perhaps more rounded off than most in the segment. The body wears gentle undulations rather than hard lines, and the slender, elegant LED lighting provides most of the details. The Ariya comes standard with 19-inch alloy wheels and is available with 20-inch alloys.
Powertrain
Even though Nissan simplified the Ariya’s trim lineup somewhat, it’s still confusing. The base Engage FWD features a single motor paired with a 66-kWh battery pack, good for 214 horsepower and 221 pound-feet of torque, and a range of 216 miles. The Engage e-4orce adds a second motor, yielding 335 hp, 413 lb-ft of torque, a a 205-mile range. The Evolve+ FWD slips in with a 91-kWh battery and single motor, for 238 hp, 221 lb-ft of torque and 289 miles of travel. The Engage+ e-4orce and Evolve+ e-4orce both get the 91-kWh battery and two motors, good for up to 389 hp and 442 lb-ft of torque, and up to 272 miles of range. Platinum trims add more features and bigger wheels, which sacrifice range. All versions get a single-speed automatic transmission.

Interior
The Ariya has a simple yet sophisticated cabin that showcases fantastic attention to detail. It’s more upscale than similarly priced competitors, thanks to elements like a power-sliding center console, illuminated haptic controls, and matte wood trim. Unlike some rivals, the Ariya doesn’t resort to the type of hard plastic surfaces that help manage costs but also cheapen the look and feel of the whole vehicle. Both rows of seats are spacious and comfortable, and the Ariya’s liftgate can still stow away 27.9 cubic feet of cargo.
Technology
The Ariya’s infotainment system pairs a 12.3-inch driver information display with a 12.3-inch touchscreen that complement, rather than compete with, each other. That’s thanks to a lovely integration that makes the displays look as if they flow together. The system features standard wired Android Auto, wireless Apple CarPlay, Amazon Alexa, and newly standard wireless device charging. A six-speaker audio system comes standard, and a 10-speaker Bose system is available.
Safety
Nissan equips the Ariya with a rearview camera, adaptive cruise control, front and rear automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warnings, lane-keep assist, traffic-sign recognition, front and rear parking sensors, and driver-attention monitoring. The Ariya also comes with the ProPilot Assist 2.0 semi-automated highway driving assist system. The National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration (NHTSA) awarded the 2025 Ariya a five-star overall safety rating, while the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) awarded the Top Safety Pick rating and top Good scores in the three completed crash tests.
