What’s New for the 2024 RAM HD
Changes for the 2024 model year were minimal–until now. Ram introduced the Lunar edition on August 20th, 2024. Further model-year updates include the addition of a “tailgate ajar” warning lamp in the Ram 2500’s instrument panel.
Design
Trims for the 2024 Ram 2500 are Tradesman, Big Horn, Laramie, Rebel, Power Wagon, Limited Longhorn, and Limited. Depending on the trim selected, the 2500 is offered with a two-door regular cab with an 8-foot bed, a four-door crew cab with either a 6-foot-6-inch bed or 8-foot bed, or the expanded four-door Mega Cab with the 6-foot-6-inch bed. All three cabs are also available for the Ram 3500, which is also offered in single-rear-wheel and dual-rear-wheel (“Dually”) configurations. The 2024 Ram 3500 is available with power-telescoping side trailering mirrors, in-bed power outlets, in-bed LED lighting, and the Ram Box lockable/drainable cargo compartments located above the rear wheel fenders.
With the new Lunar edition, exclusive design elements become available for the Ram Power Wagon and Rebel. These include Ceramic Gray exterior paint, body-color badges, gloss black “Lunar” graphics, distinctive LED headlights and taillights, and black wheels (17-inch for Power Wagon or 20-inch for Rebel). All Power Wagon and Rebel models get 33-inch tires, reflecting their off-road-capable natures.
Powertrain
The 2024 Ram 2500 comes equipped with a 6.4-liter gas-fueled V8 engine. It makes 410 horsepower and 429 pound-feet of torque. The available Cummins turbodiesel 6.7-liter inline six-cylinder engine makes 370 horsepower and 850 pound-feet of torque. Ram also offers a high-output version of the diesel engine, making 420 horsepower and an impressive 1,075 pound-feet of torque.
The gas V8 comes equipped with an eight-speed automatic. The diesel engines are mated to an Aisin six-speed automatic transmission. Power is routed to the rear wheels (RWD) or to available four-wheel drive (4WD) with low-range gearing. When properly equipped, the Ram 2500 can tow up to 20,000 pounds, while the Ram 3500 can tow an incredible 37,090 pounds. The latter also has a maximum payload rating of 7,680 pounds.
If you’re looking to get off the beaten path, the Ram 2500 Rebel features all-terrain tires, an electronically locking rear differential, and Bilstein off-road shocks. The Power Wagon builds on the Rebel by adding a locking front differential, a 2-inch factory lift, a disconnecting front sway bar, and a Warn winch integrated into the front bumper.
The Lunar Edition of the Ram Power Wagon comes with the 6.4-liter HEMI and can tow up to 10,610 pounds. The Ram Rebel Lunar Edition features the 6.7-liter Cummins tubrodiesel for a max towing capacity of 14,900 pounds.

Interior
The new Lunar Edition endows the Power Wagon and Rebel with black leather seating surfaces, trimmed with Surf Blue contrast stitching. It also adds Twill Film inserts inside the door cards, on the dash, and on the center console, as well as a die-cast trim name badge on the center armrest.
The entry-level Ram HD Tradesman is a work truck in the truest sense. It comes equipped with vinyl bench seating, push-button start, and a four-speaker stereo system. Moving up to the Big Horn swaps out the vinyl for cloth upholstery or available leather. The Big Horn also adds remote keyless entry, a six-speaker stereo, and the ability to select a number of options packages.
The Laramie trim comes equipped with leather upholstery, power-adjustable front seats, heated front seats, HD radio, and a Wi-Fi hotspot. The Limited Longhorn adds ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, and premium leather upholstery. Other available features include genuine wood interior trim, a 17-speaker Harmon Kardon premium stereo system, heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, and a panoramic sunroof.
Technology
Tradesman and Big Horn trims come equipped with a 5-inch audio display. Moving up to the Laramie makes standard the intuitive Uconnect 8.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Also available is a massive, portrait-oriented 12.3-inch touchscreen. The range-topping Limited features wood interior accents and a 17-speaker Harmon Kardon premium stereo system. The Lunar Edition adds a wireless charging pad in Power Wagon and Rebel models.
Safety
Standard driver-assistance features on the 2024 Ram Heavy Duty lineup are minimal. You get the backup camera that’s required by regulators, and if you step up to a higher trim or select one of the available equipment packages, you can outfit the trucks with features such as forward-collision avoidance, lane-departure warning, a trailer camera system, front and rear parking sensors, and adaptive cruise control that can follow with the flow of traffic.
