What’s New for the 2024 BMW iX
The BMW iX, now in its third year, carries over mostly unchanged following the addition of the M60 trim level last year, though there’s new tech on offer. For 2024, BMW does add a smartphone-based remote park-assist system and a semi-autonomous highway driving-assist system to the list of safety options.
Design
The iX wears the current styling cues of BMW’s SUV lineup, but with a slightly more futuristic vibe. The signature big kidney grille, love it or hate it, could have been totally skipped on a vehicle that doesn’t need a grille at all, but BMW instead uses those massive nostrils to hide a network of sensors and cameras. From there, the lines flow into sleek sides, roofline, and pillars, with big wheel openings that frame stylish alloy designs like fine art.
Powertrain
Each trim of the iX features its own powertrain, both with a 111.5-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery and all-wheel drive (AWD). The iDrive50 features a pair of electric motors with one on each axle, for a combined output of 516 horsepower and 564 pound-feet of torque, as well as estimated range of 324 miles. The M60 upgrades the motors for peak output of 610 hp and 811 lb-ft of torque, though those figures are achieved with Sport mode and launch control. Range for the M60 drops to 288 miles, however.

Interior
As is typical of BMW crossovers, the iX features a simple yet sophisticated cabin, putting the focal point on the expansive array of technology and letting the comfortable, supple seating serve as a backdrop. It’s a welcoming vehicle, with a thoughtful combination of upholstery types and colors as well as trims and accents. The rear seat is comfortable, too. The iX offers 35.5 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats, which opens up to 77.9 cubic feet with the seats folded. However, unlike some EVs, the iX does not have a frunk.
Technology
The 2024 BMW iX features an eye-catching 14.9-inch curved touchscreen infotainment display, which can also be controlled by voice recognition, gesture control, or a console-mounted dial. Other standard features include a 12.3-inch digital information display, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless device charging, navigation, HD Radio, satellite radio, and a 12-speaker audio system.
Safety
Neither the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) nor the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has conducted crash tests on the 2024 BMW iX, which is not uncommon for performance and luxury cars that sell in low numbers. The iX comes standard with forward-collision warning, pedestrian and cyclist detection, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot warnings, lane-departure warning, rear cross-traffic alert, traffic-sign recognition, safe-exit assist, active park-distance control, automatic collision notification, automatic high-beam headlights, and a rearview camera. For 2024, BMW now offers the iX with semi-automated highway driving and remote park-assistance features.

Pricing and Release Date
The 2024 BMW iX is available now. As of this writing, BMW lists the MSRPs at $87,100 for the iX xDrive50 and $111,500 for the M60. The destination charge is an additional $1,175. Though the base xDrive50 is available with several upgrade packages for technology and comfort amenities, the M60 comes well-equipped for its price.
