Following a major revision inside and out that occurred for nearly all trim levels of the Hyundai Sonata for the 2011 model year, only minor exterior upgrades and package combinations are expected for 2013, which is expected to roll into dealer showrooms sometime between late summer and early winter 2012.
As with the 2012 model year, the 2013 Hyundai Sonata will be available in seven front-wheel-drive trim levels: GLS, GLS PZEV (partial zero emissions vehicle), SE, Limited, Limited PZEV, 2.0T and 2.0T Limited. While powertrain changes are expected to be made to Sonata models overseas, those changes were made to U.S. models when the last major upgrade occurred in the 2011 model. As a result, GLS, SE and Limited trims are expected to come equipped with a gasoline direct-injected 2.4-liter 16-valve DOHC 4-cylinder engine with dual continuously variable valve timing (CVVT) and paired with a 6-speed manual transmission or an available 6-speed automatic transmission with Shiftronic, which is standard equipment for all remaining trims. The 2.0T trims will come equipped with a 2.0-liter turbocharged 16-valve DOHC 4-cylinder engine with CVVT.
With the manual transmission, the standard GLS and Limited trims will achieve 198 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque, while the PZEV will reach 190 hp and 179 lb-ft of torque. The SE is expected to make 200 hp and 186 lb-ft of torque, while the turbocharged engine trims are rated to make 274 hp and 269 lb-ft of torque.
A revised front fascia, side mirrors and LED taillights, along with new wheel designs, are also on the horizon for the 2013 Hyundai Sonata. Otherwise, all interior and exterior choices from the 2012 model are expected to carry over to 2013.
The 2013 Hyundai Sonata is expected to remain competitive against the Honda Accord, Nissan Altima and Toyota Camry, all of which are also not expected to receive any significant changes for the 2013 model year. As a result, the Sonata, with the refresh that the model received in 2011, arguably has the most curb appeal for the money in the affordable midsize sedan market when compared to its aging competition.
What owners say
"Overall, drivers have a favorable impression of the 2013 Hyundai Sonata, appreciating its smooth ride, handling, and value for money. Many love the car's features, including the sound system and fuel efficiency, while some mention issues with cabin noise and minor technical quirks. Owners frequently recommend this model for its reliability and spaciousness."
This car was terrible. Took to my mechanic and it has major problems and not worth 1000.00. My overall rating of car is 0.
April 27, 2025All the pros i named the car has no faults its a Hyundai's best selling car for a reason! I have recommend this car to friends and they have listened! You get more then you pay for with the Hyundai Sonata!
June 18, 2014This car is one of the best cars Ive owned. Its a very smooth ride for an older vehicle and I have the 2.0 turbo, so its really fast and fun. The only thing Im not a fan of is it does have loud cabin noise, but its not the worst offender that Ive encountered. My Sonata has black leather seats, both front and back seats are heated, Bluetooth, and a really awesome sound system (Infinity). Great car!

April 14, 2022Absolutely great value! Love the car, its in very near mint condition.
November 23, 2023The perfect car if you want a great handling, spacious family vehicle. I'm a loyal Hyundai owner, and decided to trade up to the Sonata, and I'm very happy with the car! Beautiful, sleek, handles well, and great on gas. Recommended to all!
November 26, 2013This is my second Sonata. The first was a Hybrid, lots of interior features, heated seats etc. This one is a GLS, a pretty basic car. While the features dont impress me, I bought it because of the low mileage, just under 69,000.
May 18, 2023Over 276000 miles on it and it was a great car
June 5, 2023We are very happy with our 2013 Hyundai Sonata! It is in great condition and a great price. Gas mileage has been a plus!
November 11, 2022Three years ago I rented a 2012 Sonata for a trip. After spending a week with the car, I knew that I would eventually buy one. That finally happened about four months ago. With the help of Car Gurus, I found a great deal on a 2013 Sonata at a dealership near my home. The vehicle handles very well, and it has decent acceleration. The brakes are strong. The ride is good and noise levels are not bad. I have been averaging fuel economy in the mid 30s with a mix of city and highway driving. The seats are comfortable and interior fit and finish is good. The vehicle came with loads of features, such as power windows and locks, cruise control, USB port, Bluetooth and satellite ready radio. My issues with this vehicle are more annoyances than problems. At times I cannot set the cruise control unless I press the cancel button and hold it for 5-10 seconds. I have also had issues with screen freezes on the sound system when it is playing CDs.
September 16, 2015This car is fun to drive, handling in rain is amazing. The heated seats make a long drive much better. And I can fit 3 car seats in back. Braking system works great and has an eco boost that helps get better gas mpg. Also My elderly grandmother was able to get in and out of car with ease.
