I loved this car, I did get it used so the top leaked when it rained and the ignition key locked in the off position and finally engine issues so finally sold it !

The engine is a time bomb. If you are considering one with more than a 100k on it, it is not worth it unless you can talk the seller down at least 1500 dollars. Also, beware of sellers who are not honest with you about 09s warts (timing chains are typically good but on this model not so much). I had one guy who basically admitted turning off a check engine light that was indicating a misfire. Could have been something as simple as a spark plug but might not have been. So no thanks. I might consider buying one with a good body and working roof for 4k...if it had 110 k or less on it. Otherwise...yuck.

Great Little Sporty Convertible With Enough Practicality To Be Used Everyday. —

My wife decided that since nearly her entire morning commute is driving along a nice winding road through Saguaro National Park it would be nice to have a convertible that would better let her experience the natural beauty on her way to and from work each day. We looked at a number of cars and configurations and decided on the VW EOS for it's peppy turbo, modern DSG automatic transmission and convertible hard top. So far this is a decision that we do not regret. Our little EOS has more than met our expectations by providing everyday practicality along with convertible fun. The zippy 2.0 turbo 4 gets excellent MPG averaging over 30mpg combined city highway in our experience. Even with the top stored in the trunk you can still have enough space to run a few small errands and with the top up trunk space is comparable to any other compact sedan and you can still enjoy some open air driving thanks to the enormous sunroof built into the convertible tops operation. Another nice touch is the single button to put all four side windows down or up at one time. Overall a great little car that offers the rare combination of both fun and practicality in equal measures.

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: Well designed hard top convertible. Quick turbo 4 cylinder. Very crisp shift from the DSG transmission. Excellent MPG especially considering the acceleration. Comfortably firm European build quality/ride.

Cons: Stock tires not up to sporty handling nature. DSG can be hard to launch at medium acceleration (seems you can either launch slow or light em up down the road). A bit more cowl shake than I would expect from a car that was designed to be a convertible. Top operation is a bit slow (about 25 seconds to open or close, still pretty good for a hard top convertible though).

My Car.... — It has a lot more squeaks and rattles than I would think a new car should have......Its a fun car to drive, got alot of little comforts, heated seats, self adjusting windshield wipers, heated mirrors...lol...not to mention the hard top convertible, and also having a sunroof....

Primary Use: Commuting to work

Pros: Small, turns on a dime, fun, 6speed manual tranny

Cons: kinda noisy....lots of wind/road noise, with top up...

The Trade-offs Are Worth It. — After driving cars with V6 engines, this 4 cylinder took some getting use to, but the turbo helps and adds to the fun. The car has integrity, looks great, and is very fun. I miss little touches like storage for sunglasses, CDs, etc., but for the fun I'm having, it's an acceptable trade-off. This is not a family car -- far too little storage, but for just me, it's great!

Vw Eos - Not For Everyone — While its a fun summer car, the FWD makes this car suffer from a a bad case of torque steer as the car barely weights anything! The best part of this car is the convertible hard top which features a retractable and tiltable sunroof - not only is it an industry first, but it's the biggest sunroof on a coupe i've ever seen!

Pros: Fun in the sun....

Cons: just a second car.
