2009 Toyota Venza Trims and Specs

The 2009 Toyota Venza I4 is the base trim for this “crossover sedan,” available only in North America. As the name suggests, it’s the engine that really separates this from the other trims – a 2.7-liter, inline four-cylinder with a double overhead cam and variable valve timing that's capable of 182 horses at 5,800 rpm and 182 lb-ft of torque at 4,200 rpm. The Venza I4 gets the best mileage of any of the four trims at 21 city/29 highway mpg. Part of the I4's higher mileage is due to weight, which is also the lowest of the four trims at 4,960 pounds of gross vehicle weight. The Venza I4 comes with 19-inch, 10-spoke alloy wheels with P245/55R19 size all-season steel-belted radial tires.

Toyota has made all packages available to all trim levels for the Venza – Security, Convenience, Lighting, Leather, Comfort, Tow Prep, and two levels of Premium Package. In other words, the Venza comes with exactly the kind of accessories you want it to have.

The 2009 Toyota Venza I4 4WD is described fairly well by its name. This trim gets a 2.7-liter, DOHC, 16-valve I4 engine plus Toyota’s Active Torque Control All-Wheel Drive. The addition of the all-wheel drive system does add a little bit of weight to this trim (5,160 pounds gross vehicle weight) and detracts just slightly from its mileage – 20 city/28 highway mpg, down from the 21/29 of the Venza I4. Like the I4, the I4 4WD can come with any of the packages offered by Toyota, from Security to Comfort to Premium, so this vehicle can take many shapes.

The name says it all – what separates the 2009 Toyota Venza V6 from Venza I4 is, of course, its engine. The inline four-cylinder in the I4 is replaced with a 3.5-liter V6 capable of 268 horses at 6,200 rpm and 246 lb-ft of torque at 4,700 rpm. More power requires more gas, so the V6 gets 19 city/26 highway mpg, compared to the I4's 21/29. At 5,095 pounds gross vehicle weight, it’s also heavier than the I4. Like all Venzas, all of the option packages (Security, Convenience, Lighting, Leather, Comfort, Tow Prep, and two levels of Premium Package) are available for the V6, allowing the owner to accessorize to his or her standards. The V6 comes standard with 20-inch, five-spoke alloy wheels with P245/50R20 size all-season steel-belted radial tires.

The 2009 Toyota Venza V6 4WD is clearly skewed toward the SUV/station wagon/heavy duty end of this "crossover sedan.” This trim gets both the 3.5-liter, DOHC, 24-valve V6 with variable valve timing, 268 horsepower, and 246 lb-ft of torque AND the Active Torque Control All-Wheel Drive system. Owners looking for a rugged “sedan” with extra room will probably appreciate the Venza V6 4WD, and might also consider adding the Tow Prep package, which would bring towing capacity up to 3,500 pounds from 1,000.

And since this is the high-end trim, owners might also be tempted by some of the other available packages, including Security, Convenience, Lighting, Leather, Comfort, and two Premium packages, to personalize their Venza. The V6 4WD does get the lowest mileage of any of the Venzas at 18 city/25 highway, but that’s not too far from the I4's 21/29, which is the highest rating for any of the Venza trims.
