For the Torrent's third year in production, Pontiac adds a GXP sport version that joins the Base model in the lineup. The Torrent GXP crouches an inch lower to the ground than the Base model, features a revised front end and a unique hood with cooling vents, and comes equipped with larger 18-inch wheels (compared to 16-inch standard wheels for the Base model). It also rides on a sport-tuned suspension.
Pontiac pumps up the power in the Torrent GXP with a 263-horsepower, 3.6-liter, 24-valve V6 engine, which drives the vehicle from 0 to 60 in just under 7 seconds. The engine links to a six-speed automatic transmission, which impedes the GXP's sport appeal just a bit, but provides smooth shifting.
Inside, the Torrent GXP features sporty seats with beefed-up side bolsters, a unique dashboard and instrument cluster with red-backlit gauges, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. Like the Base model, it's available with either front-wheel or all-wheel drive.
Other than that, Pontiac made only minor changes to its Torrent SUV/wagon/crossover vehicle for 2008. All versions come with an upgraded stability system, as well as a tire-pressure monitoring system and new digital compass, which are part of the vehicle information center, located on the instrument panel.
As in previous years, the rear seat of the Torrent can slide forward or back, so drivers can adjust it to provide more cargo space or more legroom for backseat passengers. The back seats also recline into two positions, adding flexibility for passengers. Other standard features include antilock brakes, fog lights, power locks and windows, keyless entry, air conditioning, and a roof rack (available as an option on the GXP).
The Base model comes equipped with a standard 185-horsepower, 3.4-liter V6 engine, which links to a five-speed, electronically controlled automatic transmission.
The Torrent received high marks in front and side impact crash tests in previous years, and comes standard with a theft-deterrent alarm system. And thanks to its unibody design, it handles more like a sedan than an SUV. Options include OnStar, side-impact airbags, and a power sunroof.
I found a hose with a loose connector under the hood on my 2008 Pontiac Torrent. The hose seems to be coming from part of the engine, so I am wondering if it could be the culprit in the oil pressure warning I am getting. Can you tell what this is and where the end is supposed to go?
I had this dropped on me. 2008 Pontiac Torrent, turn signals inoperative, ABS light on, engine hot A/C off, radio displays locked, and check engine light is on. Now for the history. We had a Torrent setting around for a year because the left turn signal wouldn't work. Diagnosed as bad BCM. Another Torrent came in with a blown head gasket. We pulled the BCM out and put it in other torrent. Turn signals worked but the air bag light was on. We sent it to a shop to get the BCM flashed. The called and said air bag sdm was bad. We sent that to the shop. They installed SDM, said vehicle has major wiring issues. We get vehicle back. We took the motor out and put it in the vehicle with the blown head gasket. We took the modules out of the car and sent everything back to the shop that flashed the computers for us. They kept it for 2 months. They finally said it was ready. We get it back with the issues noted at the beginning of this post. None of these problems were in this car when the bad motor was in it. Could the problem be the body module. This car is AWD the other was FWD.
REMOTE START SWITCH IS NOT WORKING WHEN I TRY TO USE IT I HEAR IT CLICKING NOISE COMING FROM THE VEHICLE. I ALSO NOTICE THAT THE ENGINE SYMBOL LIGHT IS ON WHEN I WAS DRIVING.
My car is overheating. It will go from the halfway mark on the temp gauge to the top in just seconds. As soon as the indicators go off beeping to tell me the "engine is hot turn off a/c" i pull over and shut off engine, so its not being drove while hot but for less than 2-5mins to safely pull over. When driving down the highway it drives ok as long as the a/c and air recirrulator are not going but once in town stop lights, stop signs and traffic make it overheat. I have no other vehicle so i have no choice but to drive it approximately 15 mins to work and back but other that time its been parked. When it over heated the first time it wasnt low on coolant but there was sroom to add some, no problems after that until now ( a month later). I have always been very cautious with the fluids. There is always coolant and oil is always tapped off. When it over heated 5 days ago the change oil indicator went from 83% to 0%. The towing company i used said that it was just a safety feature it did that? I had just changed the oil 2 weeks prior. He reset the oil indicator and changed the coolant tank sensor and thermostat......still overheating. Check engine light came on and he said it was showing it was in limp mode? He reset that. (Its stayed off since). 2 days after being stranded it overheated again, this time not as hot but now when starting the engine it has a gurgling sound and then when beginning to drive has some clanking sounds that after getting on the highway stop. When i first bought the car 6months ago previous owners had NO issues (family friends). It started and turned off very quietly, when turning it off it sounds rough now. A friends husband looked at it and said there was condensation coming from the exhaust............i dont know what else could be wrong......im a single mom on a very tight budget.....this is my only rig......any ideas???
