No Acceleration now won't start
Drove 08 Nissan Xterra all day stopped to eat when we left it lost acceration then "service engine soon" light came on. Will not start now. When turn key to on the fan starts... help!!!

Write a reviewAcross the earth drives the Xterra, a true off-roading small SUV aimed at outdoor enthusiasts. The base X, S, and high-end SE trims all come in either rear-wheel or part-time four-wheel drive with both high- and low-range gear settings. A special Off-Road trim is available only in 4WD and features a stronger suspension. All 4WD models get mudguards and come standard with 16-inch or optional 17-inch wheels.
New for the 2008 Nissan Xterra are standard power windows, locks, and mirrors, cruise control, and remote entry for the base X trim, which previously offered a CD and air conditioning. An auto-dimming rearview mirror and temperature and compass display are now standard across the line, and the S trim receives step rails, a first aid kit, and a cargo net. Bluetooth, which is standard on the SE, is optional for all other trims. ABS brakes, dual front-side airbags, and traction and stability control are all standard.
Backed by a 4.0-liter, 265-hp V6 with a choice of 5-speed automatic or 6-speed manual transmission, the 2008 Nissan Xterra can carry up to 66 cubic feet of cargo with the 60/40 split-folding rear seats down. An optional folding front passenger seat adds more space. The cargo area is gear-oriented, with adjustable tracks and ten hooks. But the cargo capacity doesn't stop there. The standard roof rack features a lockbox, and with an optional tow package, the 2008 Xterra can tow up to 5,000 pounds. Though the top-of-the-line SE comes with luxuries such as a leather-wrapped steering wheel and 6-CD changer, this SUV is more adventure than family oriented.
Owners love the Xterra's V6 power and acceleration (0-60 in 7.5 seconds), crisp handling, cargo versatility, and inexpensive pricetag compared to similar SUVs. A wide turning ratio, 16/22 mpg estimates, and difficult step-up access are some of the minor complaints.

I loved my 2000 Xterra 3.3l V6. It was RWD but still very capable. The only way I can describe the difference is a more ROBUST feeling throughout the entire car. It is taller and wider than my old 2000, but the 4.0l VQ40 is a very efficient engine however it could have better MPG, I average about 25-27 city and maybe ~30 mpg highway. Everything about the car feels solid, it's heavier than the old one but still relatively light compared to other's in it's class. The cargo space is ample, only a few cubic feet short of a Range Rover! This car is for people who like reliability and charming off road looks and performance. A true classic, bare bones vehicle that deserves to go into the books as one of the last great SUV's of our time. Mine is a Night Armor metallic, which in my opinion is the best color. Off Road Edition. Due to the type of Suspension this vehicle has it is certainly not a Highway Performance SUV. It tends to kick alittle on rough roads at speeds above 60 MPH. Off Road this thing is a fricking monster. I recently took it on a 40 mile expedition In Alaska on the Boarder of Denali State Park. Fording rivers extremely rocky terrain, mud and difficult off road trails. I am extremely impressed with how it handles in Cold weather and Extremely snowy roads.Oct 16, 2009

Just ask Jason T. the acceleration in one of the new xterra is unbelievable. The rear of the vehicle is rubber and is excellent on a offroad trip to just hose out the back of the vehicle. the car has about 13mpg city miles and about 16mpg highway miles to the gallon. However,
the car is quite fun to drive. and is accessible anywhere. It can fit in those New York City
garages that don't take SUVs and it comfortably seats five with a large trunk. The stereo
system in my car has a six disc CD changer with 9 inch performance speakers and XM

Our xterra temp gauge will rise about 3/4 of the way up then drop back down while driving. It never gets to the red zone and it does drop back down. Any ideas?
