Sporty appearance details distinguish the 2008 Kia Rio5 SX from the LX. A rear roof spoiler, front air dam, leather interior trim on the steering wheel and shifter, sports cloth for the front seats, and standard foglights are the minor upgrades you get with the SX. The front-wheel-drive hatchback seats four, with split-folding rear seats that fold almost flat. The cargo area holds up to 50 cubic feet with the seats down and comes with a cover. A rear window wiper is also included.
Under the hood of the 2008 Rio5 SX is a 1.6-liter, 110-hp DOHC inline-four engine, matched to either a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission. The SX sits on larger 15-inch alloy wheels with all-season tires, with the option to substitute 16-inch wheels. Four-wheel disc brakes, dual front-side and side curtain airbags for both rows, automatic headlights with halogen lamps, passenger airbag deactivation, and a tire monitor are standard safety features. The hatch earns acceptable marks, but not the highest ones, in crash tests by the Insurance Institute. Two front power outlets and two cupholders offer passenger convenience. Intermittent front wipers, tilt steering, a CD player with MP3 input, tachometer, an 8-way manually adjustable driver's seat, and fold-down front armrest are other standard features. Optional additions include four-wheel ABS brakes and power windows, locks, and mirrors. Heated mirrors and remote entry are also part of the optional power package.
