Its a good driving car. If youre purchasing one used, do your research(ask preliminary questions) and get a pre-sale inspection from an independent mechanic. They cost $100 to $200. Dont purchase ANY used car blindly. Youre asking for trouble. Im just sayin.

Classic American Luxury — If you took this car, slap some chrome bumpers on and take out the CD player and stick in the middle of the 70's, it would fit right in. It's got a V8, rear wheel drive, body-on-frame chassis, seats six and has a huge trunk. The engine is just a toned down Mustang engine. The rest of it is pretty much just a dressed up cop car. I've drag raced it and autocrossed it and to most people's surprise, did fairly well for a two ton land yacht. The ride is smoother than most cars, but isn't the smoothest that I've driven (Lincoln Town Car). It has plenty of leather and chrome; Classic American Luxury. If you want an older, bigger car, but need the practicality of a new car, look at the Grand Marquis. P.S. Mine was originally a Hertz rental car and was in an accident before I bought it, so it has had a few problems, but the Grand Marquis' record on reliability is as good as any Japanese car.

Pros: Size, Smooth ride, V8, Sleeper, Highway driving

Cons: Has been virtually unchanged in 10 years, so Car and Driver, etc. don't take it seriously. Also, it's primary sales base are seniors, so no one takes it serious (until you autocross it).

Somewhat Antiquated, But Durable. Pleasant To Drive And Own. — This '06 Grand Marquis LS is our third G-Marquis. Previous ones were '89 and '98, all LSs. All three of them were bought used and have been very decent cars. My wife and I are taller than average old timers and like the value, comfort, roominess, large trunk and the safe feeling we have while driving/riding in them. Mid-size cars seem cramped and just don't fill the bill for us. The LS Grand Marquis' all had automatic A/C and plenty of features. No FWD, AWD, nav, bluetooth, cameras, cd changers, but that's just fine with us. It's called an old man's car and I'm an old man. OK by me.

Primary Use: Family transportation

Pros: Reliable, roomy, comfortable, large trunk, adequate power, rear wheel drive. The stock body is rather plain, so we added some bling with a half vinyl roof, skinny whitewalls, chrome wheel cutout lips and chrome taillight overlays. Purists might not like the bling, but we think it adds some welcome panache.

Cons: Local gas mileage rather low at 15 mpg. OD doesn't kick in until 45 mph. Much of my driving is local and have to keep it around more like 40 mph.  Does anyone know if it can  be reset to 40 mph with its computer?
