Why did my programmed key only start my car once?
I Ii have a 2006 ford tauras i had to replace the ignition cylinder it came with keys that i had programmed but the key only worked once and now it wont start the car again

The biggest change to the 2006 Ford Taurus is the loss of the wagon model and the Duratec DOHC V6 engine. Available only as a four-door mid-sized sedan, there are two trims -- the SE and SEL. Both come with a 153-hp, 3.0-liter V6 and 4-speed automatic. Unable to compete with foreign sedans in its class, the previously popular, but outdated family sedan was quickly supplanted by the snazzier Ford Fusion and more upscale Five Hundred.
The Taurus is far from flashy and offers the most basic functional features. Its highlight is its roomy interior, which can hold up to six passengers. While the base model SE comes with power features, cruise control, and keyless entry, the SEL upgrades the look with wood accents, a power driver's seat, and a CD player. The 2006 Taurus earns top ratings for front impact, thanks to dual front airbags, but only earns three stars for side impact. Front-side airbags can be added, along with ABS and traction control. Bundled packages adds more luxuries, such as leather seats, a power passenger seat, and a CD changer, and a rear spoiler can be added to cut through the exterior blandness of the front-wheel drive sedan.
The 2006 Taurus may be showing its age, and it never achieved the cult status of the Honda Accord, but it has proved to be a fairly reliable sedan over the years, despite suffering from rapid depreciation. Acceleration can be labored, and some drivers report inadequate brakes and brake shudder, but the comfort, features, and passenger room are still highlights. 2006 will be the last year for the Taurus until 2008, when the Five Hundred and Fusion will be revived under the Taurus name.

I was told it was a replacement for the Mercury Sable. It looks similar, but the model I purchased was little more than similar. No leather seats, no console shift lever, no sunroof, seats are not electric.
The seat panels fell off while driving away from the dealership. The speaker system is not as good as the Mercury Sable. All cosmetics and fixable. The suspension is fine and the motor seems strong. The climate control works as do the windshield wipers.May 24, 2021

Unless you have owned a Taurus I don't think you will appreciate one. This car rides amazing, has tons of space, gets good fuel mileage, and will also get up and go when you need it to. The interior has everything that you need and is easy to use. Jan 12, 2014

I bought this car at a good price, so you get what you paid for... Even when my expectations were not high, it was still disappointing to get a proven model with weak reliability. The major repairs are:
1) Exhaust system - The catalytic converter assembly fails at the flex hose joint. Ford refuses to accept this as warranty.
2) Brake system - Spongy brake pedal, lack of feel, and brakes overheat easily even after performing upgrades.
3) Suspension system - It makes all kind of noises and the springs are prone to sagging and even breaking at the rear.
The engine design is from the 60s/70s and it is a very noisy and harsh powertrain. It is an average car at best yet, I know Ford can do better...Nov 25, 2013

Too many problems. Something always needs fixing or replacing. I had this car for 4 years. Replaced the transmission once and it just went again. Water pump replaced. Replaced all 4 tires twice. Window switch and motor went. This car was reguarly maintained and only put an average of 10,000 miles/year.Jun 02, 2012

I like that the car was given to us as a gift. Its really a nice car to drive, but it's not a luxury car. Thats what I really got my eyes on, Luxury cars....(BUICKS)

Handles great, good gas mileage, comfortable, easy to take care of, no repairs needed. Interior in great condition, exterior only has a minor scratch on front fender. Shows number of miles left before you run out of gas which is a nice feature.Dec 23, 2010

Car was bought as wife's commuter car. Have had to replace the battery, alternator, starter, and a bad cylinder head over the past 3 years. Thank goodness Ford guarantees its work! (GM has the same guarantee on the cars they work on, too!). It is possible the car was not maintained well before we bought it. It does quite well now.Jun 25, 2010

Again, I liked this car because it was free as it was a company vehicle. Drove this vehicle very long distances (over 1,500 miles weekly) for my job and the passenger compartment and driver erganomics made this a very comfortable vehicle to drive. Mileage range was excellent for this 6 cyl but it was not as comfortable as the Five Hundred or the Sable because the shortened the drivers seat track.Feb 20, 2010

Yes..... I did drive one of these. It was my Driver's ed car which at the time was the best car I'd ever driven. ;) Believe it or not, this car is actually not that bad. Not the most powerful or best performing car but hey it was a driver's ed car. It's acceleration is better then you would think (It's just because students are afraid to get on it). The brakes of course would have to be good, even the passenger seat has a brake pedal or at least it did in the one I drove. ;) And it's a very stable (I say to stable) car. As for the way it looked. Decent ride, Midsize has plenty of room for fighting children in the back. Classic Taurus styling throughout. Nothing fancy, just a practical car that gets you where you want to go. I actually have a 2007, which was a fleet car at one point. It had 32000 miles on it and it was broken in quite well when I purchased it.Nov 15, 2008

For a Ford, it's not really that bad of a car. It handled really well and I liked it. Of course it was only a rental until my Sunfire got fixed. The performance was great but maybe it's because I haven't drove any other 2007 cars yet, but my friends tell me it's almost the same with other cars. I bought this car wrecked and i am in the process of fixing it up. It will be for sale immediatly after i am done. It has the 3.0 and 41,000 miles and it pretty plane jane. It does get good gas mileage but i hate FWD and V6 vehicles so it has to go. I will probably be asking around $7500 for it but not sure yet. just for it's size, but in general. It has plenty of power and it's comfortable. It isn't the

I had the misfortune of having one of these as a hire car last year. The one I was given had a fairly low mileage on the clock but felt like it had been severely abused. The steering wheel was off centre and the handling felt borderline dangerous. The steering was unresponsive and it felt underpowered too.

This is our 1st Taurus andnere very happy with it. We bought it used but it's in near perfect condition. We have taken it on 300 mile ( one way ) trips and are satisfied with the gas mileage we got about 26 mpg that includes city & hiway miles. The car is very reliable even in Colorado winter driving conditions. Overall we are very pleased with it.Dec 09, 2007

Ford Taurus Fuse for all power?
My daughter was turning over her 2006 Ford Taurus, when all the dash lights went out and all power has been lost (can't get headlights to turn on either). Checked the battery and it has a charge, so I don't think that is the issue. I am just looking for other possible things to check out. I have looked at some fuses (starter fuses) and the 15A internal box fuse looks fine as well as the 40A in box under the hood. Any thoughts/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
