For the 2006, the Chevy Uplander crossover sport van got a couple new side impact airbags and an available 3.9 L, 240 hp V6 engine. The second edition of this vehicle comes in 7 trims and sports a standard 3.5 L, 201 hp V6 engine with 4 speed automatic transmission. All 7 trims have 4 doors and seat 7.
Gas mileage comes out to 18 mpg in the city and 25 on the highway. Need room for some junk in your trunk? The Uplander has either 17.7 or 26.9 cubic feet of cargo space behind the third row, depending on which trim you choose. While the Uplander may look like it can tow, max capacity only amounts to about 3500 lbs.
Overall, drivers like the smooth handling and cool interior features. On the other hand, a van should have at least a little more power and the side airbags don't cover all three rows. Pick up an '06 Uplander if you don't mind sacrificing a little substance for some style.

The units no longer made have the capability with the seats out to hold the 4x8 sheet of whatever apply what drywall anything amazing Next the 6-cylinder engine bulletproof as long as you get the one thats not flex fuel The older Chevy ventures had a few head gasket problems when they first came out due to the antifreeze They got that updated and fixed No issues easily these vehicles can run for over $250,000 with regular oil changes in a few parts Yes theres issues with sometimes the side windows not opening and closing due to water getting in the switches automatic headlights sometimes are a problem you can no longer get the modules but you can find them through a boneyard maybe otherwise next to that a fuel pump pretty easy install if you dont want to drop the tank can be done by cutting a hole inside lastly they run and run and run but do rust out cuz of the calcium chloride used on the roads so thats one thing you got to look at and the alternator is a hassle to replaceJun 22, 2022

its a 14 year old car, but looks like its maybe a year or 2 old. very minor physical problems. it does not have a lot of the amenities i was hoping for, but still is a very nice ride. my only con is that the space between the 3rd row and the back trunk door, it is so narrow that you really cant stow anything there. i thought it had the extended cabin, but its not. on the other hand---the shorted tail gate area makes it fit into parking spots easier!Aug 31, 2020

We love that the seats are oversized and comfortable. It wasn't difficult to fit any car seat in the vehicle and the latch system was easy to use. Our number one thing that we love is that it is reliable. We have never had the vehicle in the shop for any repairs. We have done all scheduled maintenance and it has continued to be completely reliable. Another major perk were front and rear side impact air bags. Overall the vehicle is reliable, safe, and comfortable, you couldn't ask for more than that!Dec 19, 2014

After driving for one year and half my Chevrolet Uplander LS i can say that's a good, American can.
It's really spacious and confortable and, despite the lenght of the vehicle, it's not difficult to be parked.
I suggest it to the families of four or more: that's a great solution especially for long journeys.
When I drive for long mileage, my daughter used to sleep, all stretched, on the rear seats and... she said it was wonderful.

I love the roominess and amenities offered in this van. The quad seating is great with kids and provides plenty of leg room for the adults when needed. Remote start is great on cold wintry mornings and remote power sliding doors make it convenient when arms are full of grocery's!Apr 09, 2012

Nice versatile van. Dependable with good gas mileage (21-22mph combined average). Not going to make a grand entrance with the family wagon but it gets us everywhere we need to go. Lowest cost to maintain of vehicles I own or drive at work. Jan 22, 2011

Great van, What can I say, it has never let us down, it has all the power you need and then some. never had any trouble passing anyone. One thing about it, it's kind of hard on tires. I love the way it looks, it's too bad that chevrolet stopped making this vehicle. I love it. I think I might trade mine in for an AWD model next time though. See I live in Wisconsin and the winters here can get brutal however the heat works great. Even sitting in the back of the van you get warm pretty quik. I just want the AWD model not that I need it. It hadles the snow better than my Ford explorer does. The option package on mine is kind of limited though I would much rather have leather power seats and tinted windows in the front too. Rear heat and AC would have been nice to have aswell but i have the rest of the goodies and a very reliable pretty quik van so I'm happy all around with it.Oct 14, 2009

My day to day car. Pretty tough until now, transmission could be better, but the engine is right on. A bit expensive on tires, but the rest is pretty cheap to maintain. Lack just a bit of finishing inside. Very smooth on the highway, just the right size in town.Sep 04, 2009

My gold uplander just turned 95,000 miles and has been an I like it and I hate it car from the very beginning. It is a FWD fully loaded LT. Leather interior all three rows. side and rear airbags. The engine has been great and consistent. It has a 3.9 liter engine and it never lacks for power or is sluggish. I do alot of highway driving as well as living in rural PA where there are lots of hills. It consistently gets 18.4 mpg around home and 24 on the highway. I use all amsoil products in it. That said I have issues...the paint on the trim rusted and Chevy refused to replace it even though I have a 100,000 mile rust warranty on it. The front A arms had to be replaced, the replacements came in thicker and stronger made than the originals just out of warranty. The doors open on their own...the back of the sliding door opens if you hit a bump and then the alarm dings until you pull over and shut it. I have had both doors replaced under warranty. 10,000 miles ago the one door started to open again. the st steering column pops when I turn in tight corners. This week my transmission started slipping...not happy as I've flushed the transmission oil three times since I have had it. By all rights I should have traded the car last year, But I like how it rides on the highway. Its quiet and comfortable.Jul 02, 2009

The Uplander seems to be, for the moment, GM's last foray into the FWD minivan, and thank goodness for that! Following on the heels (wheels?) of the Lumina and the Venture, the Uplander doesn't look like a bad car. It comes in pretty colors and has options like remote power sliding doors on both sides, available hitch to hold GM's nifty bike rack, and DVD with wireless headphones.
We got one when our last Astro died and we couldn't replace it straightaway. I had never owned a FWD minivan before and had mixed feelings about getting one, but GM wasn't offering the Astro nor the Safari any longer; the Acadia had yet to come out (the Traverse wasn't even being talked about), so it was pretty much the Uplander or nothing (unless I wanted to cough up the money for a Suburban or a Yukon Denali. As I didn't have $50,000+ to spend on a car, we got the Uplander.)
We tried to like it. It drives like a car, and has a lovely long sweep of a dashboard. The power doors are a great idea, and I've gotten rather attached to the backup alarm. But we have had trouble with the horn (not working much of the time, despite many trips to the dealership) and the power doors (ditto). Oncoming drivers are always convinced I have my brights on. It accelerates like an ambtitious lawnmower or an early Honda, whining and sluggish. I suppose the smaller engine is supposed to increase fuel economy, but it averages under 20 mpg around town (I don't get to take many highway trips, but I think it did average over 20 one weekend on the road). For under 20 mpg I could have gotten a used Suburban, almost.
Visibility is not so great. The roof and visors are too low, infringing on one's vision and temperament. The rear seats fold down for storage, but when they do the whole thing seems to move, so if anything is on the floor it could get broken. Even with the second-row captain's chairs and small console, there isn't a reasonable amount of storage space where kids are involved, and it is pretty much impossible to keep clean. There is an AC/DC plug in the cargo area along with a power accessory thing, but no other power (lighter) things except the one for the driver. A bit stingy, I thought.
I don't like to say bad things about this innocent little car, and I don't like to seem ungrateful that we could afford to buy a new car -- many people can't. If you like the little front-wheel-drive minivans, it may be no worse than the others. My kids enjoyed the DVD player and wireless headphones. If you are looking for a replacement for your Astro or Safari, look elsewhere. Good luck!May 28, 2009
