Exactly like the regular 3500, except with a 20-inch longer wheelbase and 50 cubic feet more of storage space (a total of 317 cubic feet), the 2005 GMC Savana Cargo 3500 Extended Van is unchanged this year. It is powered by a 4.8-liter, 285-hp V8 or an optional 6.0-liter, 300-hp V8, both with a 4-speed auto tran. The vast cargo area comes with tie-downs and a light, and an optional trailer hitch helps with the 10,000-pound towing capability. Five-star crash ratings are due to the dual front airbags for the two-seater, 4-wheel ABS brakes, 16-inch wheels with all-season tires, and a front independent/rear live axle suspension. Daytime running lights are also standard, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror, mirrors with turn signals, and a locking rear differential can be added to the rear-wheel drive van.
Air conditioning, a radio, power steering, and intermittent wipers are about all you get for the base price, but there are plenty of nice options, such as power features, a power driver's seat, rear climate control, heated mirrors, keyless entry, cruise control, and a CD player. A hinged passenger door to the cargo area can be had as either a sliding door or a 60/40 split, and a driver's side door can also be added. The front bucket seats come standard in vinyl (no one said the 2005 Savana Cargo 3500 Extended Van was about comfort), but cloth ones are available. People buy this van because they need a lot of space and a lot of hauling power, and the 3500 Extended ranks high in both these categories.
